Did NOT get my ring today....

Otherwise known as 'why I hate pushy goombas that are too stupid to realize not to mess with a sure sale'

We had such a horrible experience at the Zales at Tanger Arches that we actually had to walk out this evening. When we went a few weeks ago we saw a really nice girl who wasn't pushy at all. She wasn't in today, so we had to see another salesman, and we said that we had chosen a ring and would like to purchase it. Upon hearing that it was 'only' 1/4 ct tw, he started pushing and prodding that I should try on the 1/2 ct tw again to make sure, and because I'm a 'tall girl' I can get away with more bling. Whether I'm a tall girl or not has no bearing on the ring I should be wearing!

He pushed and prodded and said that in the future FH will buy me enhancers and wraps and other pieces to dress up my e-ring to wear on my right hand (clearly he does NOT know my FH ) and because of these phantom rings I'll be getting in the future, I MUST get a larger wedding band that can stand its ground on its own alone on my finger. We felt so pressured by the hard sell, that we literally said that we needed to take a walk, and would be back in a few minutes.

The punk did have a point, because the larger ring did look a little nicer by itself, although I liked the smaller one better in tandem with the e-ring, but I didn't appreciate him bringing my physical appearance in to the equation, and the fact that he didn't seem to care that I said that I really didn't want the bigger ring. FH said to get whichever one I wanted, and was being somewhat cool about the whole situation, but then when he brought in a second salesman we felt like we were being tag teamed, and just had to leave.

I am soooooooooooo disappointed that we weren't able to get the ring today. But we weren't going to stand for that kind of treatment either. BS! In trying so hard to make the 'bigger sell', they lost the sure thing sale completely. When we go to Good Old Gold to pick FH's ring, I'm hoping they have a comparable ring in that price point as well, though I'm not holding my breath, because I'd really love to not buy it from them on general principal now

OMG! What the hell! Do they think they are car salesmen? lol! Im sorry Ali! I hate pushy sales people and probably would have walked out too! You'll get your ring soon!

That's awful what he said to you. It's complete bull, too! You don't need your wedding band to 'stand its ground' on your hand. Who the heck are these people who even think things like that, nonetheless say them????

I wear my rings together (DH wants me to, pretty much forever he said)on my left hand, but love the way my tiny band sparkles on my finger when it's alone too! I have no idea how many carats it is, but it looks a lot like the one you showed in the pic the other day, but the diamonds only go 1/2-way around and are a little more spread apart. In any event, I love it, and you should feel the same way about what you get.

I love that you guys walked out. You can still go back there, but you have so much time, you might as well look elsewhere. I got mine at a random shop at a mall in NC completely on a whim to check them out. The price was very good, too! And then there's always bluenile.com (that's where DH got his ring and it's gorgeous!). Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate jewlery stores for this reason!! I looked at so many places and as soon as they got pushy with me I walked out. I ended up getting mine custom made at Elsa and I loved them. They weren't pushy or annoying at all.

Ali - if you're going to come in to Nassau to go to Good Old Gold - try Tri County. FH and I had the BEST experience at Gabriel jewelers there. We told them what we wanted to spend, and we actually spent less than we budgeted! We ended up getting 3 bands (one for FH, one plain for me and one with diamonds for me) and it cost less than I had seen anywhere else.

Try Busy Bee right down the street from Good Old Gold. I got all my jewelry from Gary there (Eng ring, band, bracelet, right hand ring, and GM cuff links) his prices are amazing and if he doesnt have it he will get it in for you.

I had a bad experience at the Zales in Roosevelt Field and just never decided to go back again b/c of it... same rude pushy salesmen.

You shouldnt feel as though what FH is getting you 'isnt good enough or isnt big enough'... I cant believe he made you feel so uncomfortable that you had to leave. Is there a way you can get in touch with that lady that you spoke to the first time and find out when she will be working again so that you can go in?

Ali, Try going to the tanger outlets in riverhead and go to the ultra diamond store on side 1 not side 2, they are having a going out of business sale and I ended up finding the perfect wedding band for SUPER CHEAP!!! I had a plain gold band because I could not find a band I liked with diamonds until this weekend! Go check it out asap Ali!! If you have any other questions fm me, also I will tell you how super cheap if youwant!!

I thought it was pretty funny too, I'm not Italian but FH is! And not for nothing I've come across many goombas in my life that weren't Italian at all. Goomba doesn't describe a nationality it describes an attitude.

I am still really upset over this idiot bringing up the way I looked. I felt like he called me a gorilla or something. He had the same attitude like the idiot waiter that made us stop going to Ciao Baby too.

And as an aside, my father is a car salesman. I asked him this morning if he would ever tell a girl that came in 110% ready to buy a corolla that she shouldn't, because she's a big girl so she can get away with a 4-Runner, and risk offending her to the point where she doesn't buy anything at all? This is his line of business, and he said he would never do something that stupid either.

awww, that stinks! We had a similar situation when we first went to buy FH's ring and I cannot stand pushy salesmen that tell US what WE want. Jerks. Sorry! We ended up getting a good deal and great service from Littman for his ring... Good luck this weekend! I hope you get it!
