Did you change the locks on your new house/condo?

Someone mentioned me doing this...

What are some other things that FH and I should do when we move in? We are closing next week!

TIA!!

it's a bit gross, but change the toilet seats.

Make sure you have a key for everything with a lock... i.e, a sliding glass door, a garage entry... this is often overlooked.

First thing we did was change the toilet seats. We didn't change the locks while we were working on the house. We did change them the day we officially moved in. We kept the deadbolt that is on the front door, it was difficult to find one that would fit where they had it so we added another lock to the door knob since there wasn't one, we didn't change the lock on the screen door yet, since we will be replacing it. We changed the lock on the garage door and the door in the kitchen but we didn't change the lock on the glass door infront of it.

change locks when you are ready to move your stuff in, and change toilet seats.... we are actually going to put in new toilets since they are inexpensive

YES, YES, YES. When we went to pick up the keys to our house the old home owners gave us 2 sets of keys. They had 2 teenage sons...where were there keys? It's just safer.

That was the first thing we did!!! We went to Home Depot the night we closed.
While at Home Dept that night-- we bought new toilet seats.

When we moved into our co-op, we replaced the locks~added a deadbolt, ripped out the kitchen and the bathroom. It's really gross how other people live and what you'll find lurking behind the toilet...don't ask.

Also, be sure to contact the condo assoc. right away to let them know you are the new homeowner. Otherwise, you won't pay your maintenence bill on time will have to pay fees.

Locks & toilet seats are a must!

Then onto cleaning and painting.

Everything else can be done in time.
