Have any 08 brides done their own makeup (not even a friend helping out, just doing it on your own)? If so, would you do it again? What makeup brands did you use that had lasting power?

I did! I had a make up trial and I just didn't like the way it came out and wasn't the look I was going for. In the end I did it myself and I think I held up pretty well.
Towards the end of the night I was looking a bit 'worn', however, I noticed that when comparing the pro pics to the non pro pics I looked like I just stepped out of the salon in the pro pics.
I honestly forgot what I used and all my crap is still in the car (I'm lazy) but I got it at CVS even. But you can always go to Sephora and ask for suggestions - they're great like that.

I'm definitely not doing my own, b/c I'm just not that talented. lol. I had a friend do mine for my sisters wedding a few years back and it wore off completely by the time we got to the reception. I look sooooo gross in all those pictures. Like sickly pale. So i dare not test fate with that again. I'm having it done professionally so that it's sure to last.
However- I was a Bridesmaid last month and i couldn't afford to have mine done. I did it completely on my own (afraid I'd look like crap) but it actually came out gorgeous!! I really over-did the layers, putting on way more than I'd ever normally put on and it pretty much did last most of the night. I kept getting compliments too! Everybody thought I had it done. For that I just used all Covergirl. That's all I ever use. For some reason other brands like maybelline wear off so much quicker on me.

In the beginning I was going to do my own makeup. I do a pretty decent job, I just figured why not have someone else worry about it on the day of my wedding. I didn't want to get upset if I was too nervous to do it correctly that day, so I went and found someone who was perfect.
I had gone to other people in the past for makeup and I just did not like the way they did it, so I was leary at first to even search for someone for the wedding. I found someone and she was perfect.
I don't see a problem with doing it yourself though. If you are going to use any makeup, I would go with a mineral foundation/powder. This just lasts longer in my opinion, and it wont look 'cakey' like some liquid leaves your face looking. I would also use M.A.C. I am a firm believer in mac, a macwhore I suppose. The makeup just lasts all day on me. I wear it everyday to work and it blends well and it's perfect.
Sephora has some other makeup if you want to try some. I would look for Benefit/M.A.C./bobbi brown/smashbox. Those are some top brands, and they are really good makeup.

I didnt do my own- I was worried about it wearing off-especially since I tend to get oily later in the day- but just wanted to tell you that there is a product that you spray on your face that makes your make-up hold- its sprayed after everything is applied- I am not sure who makes it- it might be mac
I think that as long as you have some stuff with you for touch ups, you may not need a product like this. It's up to you though.

I am really picky with my eyes so I am doimf my own eyeliner & probably lipstick - But will have the face and eyelashes done - Most likely I dont know

If you are going to do your own.....you should go to Sephora and buy
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Put this on under your moisturizer and it will help set your makeup and look good in pictures.

I actually do makeup pretty well myself..so I definately could have done my own day of....But I had it done..I wanted to be lazy on my wedding day! Its perfectly fine to do your own makeup though..use bare minerals..it doesn't cake up and will last all day!!!

I did my own makeup and used bare minerals. I got the starter kit and practiced a lot before my wedding. I also got the smoky eye kit that they sell and I used that brush and a purple color instead of the grey/black because it was a day time wedding. I went to Sephora and Bare Essentials. The girls at both stores offered to do a mini trial on me but I had figured out what I wanted already. Some things I would definitely suggest would be a good eyeshadow primer- I use the Bare Essentials one every day and I've heard the Urban Decay one is good too. I would invest in a foundation primer too. I also wore fake eyelashes and they really made my eyes pop and no one realized they were fake. My favorite thing about doing my own makeup is that I got to buy so much makeup and now I get to use it everyday. I probably spent less than I would on a makeup artist and trial. I think it was worth it and I'm so happy with how my makeup came out. Good luck! Feel free to FM me with any questions.
