Did you ever think...

Did you ever think...

That some people should just not marry.

I went to my dad's brothers tonight for my cousin's 13th birthday. All night my uncle and his wife argued. I dont think their was one nice thing ever said between them. She called him names he told her to shut up. All night.

On the drive home I was thinking I really think they only reason they ever did get married was because he was 40, never married and hearing a lot of heat from the family asking him when will he ever settle down. She was 36 and her biological clock was ticking (she was married before and had delivered a still born and 2 years later he and her divorced so she never had any children)

I really started thinking some people should just never be married.

Then I started thinking about my friend nicole and her husband Kendal. I really think they should have never been married. They were great when they were dating but the day after they got back from there honeymoon it was non stop bickering. They were living with her mother (yes newlywed and living with her mother) and he went out and got an apartment for them. She found every reason to hate it (from the color of the walls to the tiles in the bathroom) she slept in the apartment for 1 night and ran back to her mothers. The first 6 months of there marriage they DID NOT speak. She lived with her mom and he lived in the apartment. Time marched on and he gave up and moved in with her and her mom. So now they are married 1 1/2 years and they STILL live with her mother.

Again another couple I think should just not have gotten married.

Does anyone else ever think that way about their friends????

To be painfully honest, there are times when me and my dh's arguements r so bad that I think that we shouldnt have gotten married as well. But then I realize that this is our relationship...we r definately two of a kind.I truly believe no one else would put up with our ways and we are meant to be together. Also I must admit, the first year of marriage (for us anyway) is a BITCH!!!!!! So hard and so much adjustment. Just had to respond.

I have friends that should never had been married. Then, after fighting non-stop and never getting along and always talking about needing counseling, she got pregnant (on purpose).

Well, he was there too, it's not like she tricked him. He could have used protection.....

I don't know anyone like this but I do know someone who moved her way into to the guys life, apartment & all and she stopped taking the pill to 'trap' him & had the baby, but hes smart enough not to marry her.

I think trapping someone like that is horrible! I couldn't imagine knowing for the rest of my life that someone married me to 'do the right thing', not because they wanted to.

I second that

Re: Did you ever think...

My uncle's wife her sister Debbie and Debbie's husband do not have any children and they have been married almost 20 years.

She wanted children but she is a little heavy and he didnt want her to get pregnant because if she got pregnant that would mean she would gain weight and he wanted her to loose weight before they had children this way if she got heavy hopefully she would loose it.

She never lost the weight, and they never had children.

He is a real jerk too, he calls her names and yells at her if she eats a lot. If she has a piece of cake and there is fruit he'll say to her 'do you really need that piece of cake, shouldnt someone your size eat the fruit'

He just makes me so mad.

I also have friends like that!! She was 6 months pregnant and he said- look at my wife- doesn't she have an ass the size of Texas? He often calls her fat b*tch- fh and I come home and say thank god we are not like them!

I know people who argue ALL THE TIME and they stay together. Life is too short to be unhappy.

Re: Did you ever think...

I just dont understand, when my friend Nicole and her hubby were dating I used to be a little jealous because he was such a romantic. They had candlelit diners, were always going away (either long weekends or a week long vacation), he would send her flowers for no reason, leave her messages at work before she got to the office this way when she got in he was the first message of her day, etc...I would be a little jealous.

The day after they got back from the honeymoon it was non stop bickering. I think after a year she said the word divorce more then she said she loved him.

I stopped being a little jealous very quickly.

I just dont understand. I guess because FI and I are so happy and we joke around more then anything I think every couple should be like that

Re: Did you ever think...

I have a friend that on her wedding day people were placing bets on how long it would last...very sad. I know another girl who got pregnant and tried to 'trap' her boyfriend and he ended up abandoning both her and the baby. And then there are my parents, the poster children for people who shouldn't have gotten married! Fortunately, I learned a lot from all these poor examples, which is why FH and I are taking our time getting married.

Re: Did you ever think...

Rebecca this is so bad, i am placing bets on my cousin's marriage. Her mom and dad are divorced and I think its because of her mom's mother. Her grandmother on her mom's side has 5 children and broke up all 5 marriages. She lost her husband and became the I cant do anything I need my children and all her children flocked to her. So I think her mother is going to be the same way. Oh my girls are out of the house, I have no one, etc...

So my cousin is a stuck up brat and the guy she is marrying is really sweet. He is also a cop and she likes to live like she lives in beverly hills.

I say 5 years, FI says 3, my mom says 3 and my dad says not passed the honeymoon.

I have a room reserved in Hell because I know thats where I am going

Re: Did you ever think...

I do know a couple who I feel should not have gotten married.

This couple has been married for 30 years and it seems like a miserable union.

They are not openly romantic or affectionate. They never do anything together, they never entertain in their home. They do not have any friends.

I feel people marry especially women just to say 'My husband' like those words are laced with power.

I am happy to be getting married, but if I was going into a less than ideal union I would rather stay single.

To answer your question Chip- Marriage is NOT for everyone.
