Would that be a wishing well for books??? If it is, I've never seen it done, but I LOVE it!!!

Anyone want to call my mom and suggest this for my shower???

OMG !! This is TOOOO WEIRD that this post is here, and this is the first post I read when I came on !!

I Was JUST talking to my SIL's mom, and we recently found out my SIL is pregnant. So I told her 'hey, are we going to start planning?' and she was ADAMANT about NO WISHING WELL (she likes to take control of things and will NOT take suggestions or concerns of others into consideration sometimes ). So I told her 'WHY NOT ??? YOU HAVE TO HAVE A WISHING WELL !! ITs so MUCH FUN opening that part !! with the daddy!' and she goes 'Nope, she doesnt need any of that junk, I bought her everything she needs, and all she needs is diapers and wipes' and I go 'Well at least do a Reading wishing well, everyone brings a book' and she talked right over me saying 'She doesnt need ANYTHING, its ALL taken care of ' and even my brother (daddy to be) was like 'No we HAVE TO HAVE a wishing well!' But of course his opinion has NO SAY in this, she's mailing out the invites and planning it all.. but why cant she have a wishing well ???????
So I was just going to come on here and ask this same question about wording it on the invite (maybe I can convince her !)

Thanks for posting it Laura!

Jenn-give me your moms or sis' email or number

This is long but really cute- I might modify it since some people might think it is strange to not bring a card--what do you ladies think?
Please bring a book to
jump-start Baby __________'s Library...
Cards are always nice
They're read only once or twice.
But a book is a treasure to keep
Forever and ever...
So instead of a card
To be put aside,
You may give a book
With your name inside.
They will think of you
Each time it's read,
When they put
Their little baby to bed.

They had it at my shower and I loved it. We got so many really nice books. I think they just said something like 'Bring your favorite children's book for Baby (our last name)'s bookshelf' and they bought a shelf for me where they placed the books during the shower.

Kudos to my SIL's!

eta: I like the part of the poem about putting your name in it. Some people did write their names in the books and it really does make it all the more special to read them

I would like to have a reading well at my shower. I don't know how it will go over, but I will tell my mom about it and see.

I am also loving the poem. I will have to save it in my file.

LOVE the poem Laura!!

I mentioned the 'great idea' I saw to my mom yesterday, and she said it sounded terrific. I hope she takes the bait!!!!

I had one and think it's a wonderful idea. A good idea to ask them to sign their names and write a short message to baby.

I also like the idea of a short message to the baby.

Anna
Good point
I thought of this last night after I had the idea to create labels that people could write on and stick in the book-- a bookplate of sorts-- but then as I was shopping for books I was looking for one that most people wouldn't typically buy. Ugh shuold we worry about duplicates now and not ask people to write in them?
or chalk up the doubles and they can be donated in honor of the baby to a local charity, hospital, library--
What does everyone think?

I think sticking a label in it, would 'ruin' it if it had to be returned (for being dupe) just as much as writing in it.
ON that thought/idea of yours, how about making little note/bookmark type things, and saying 'write a special note to baby in your own personalized bookmark' or something to that effecT?

I got 3 Guess How Much I Love you and 3 Goodnight Moon but I still like the special note in the book. I put a set in the car and another set at my Moms. I wouldnt worry about it. They didnt ask my guests to write a note in them but some did and I really love those personal notes.

Thanks for all the suggestions--
I ended up modifying the poem from above and printing it on the back of the direction card--so no sticker--- mostly because the logistics of cutting each sticker made my head spin!!!!
