Oh yeah.
We took both of our payments monthly bills and averaged them out to get an idea of what ours might be like.
It's been a year and we are coming in under budget (woo-hoo!).
DH is a numbers guy, so while we were looking at homes, he was constantly figuring out payments. He did an excellent job, because we are doing pretty well.

Our 1st mortgage payment is due 8/1 and I am so scared! I know we have the $ to pay it but it's still scary.

I agree 100% I know that we still have a lot of money in the bank but it is scary that we will have to pay that amount for 30 years. I am sure in 10 years and from then on it won't seem so bad.

I'm hyperventilating just reading the question. LOL! Seriously, I'm not stressed with this home (our starter home), but we're getting our 'real home' and I left my job so know we're making a lot less money and will owe alot more, so I feel like puking just thinking about it!

YES
I think FH and I did some math and figured if we live on saltine crackers and water for the first year we should be ok .....
Many of friends felt the same way and told us its 'normal' to feel that way but you manage to do it!
Good luck to us all

Jaime, I said that in the future it won't seem like alot because we will both get raises and start managing our $ better to adjust to paying a mortgage...(hopefully lol).

oh its very scary to think about it but whatever you do just remind yourself that it is all yours..no one to tell you you can't paint the walls or rip down one..no one to tell you that the rent is increasing..that's what i keep telling myself..plus it's an investment so its a good thing

I know I am looking forward to that day!!! I can't wait until it feels like our rent was, no big deal to pay.

I definitely did! I bought my house by myself a few years ago and I was so anxious about being able to pay for it. Somehow, it all works out - and that tax refund helps a lot!!!

It is a scary thing to make your first mortgage payment. You will all survive your payments and after a few months, it will be just like another one of your monthly bills. Tax time is definately a great time when your a home owner!!

just out of curiosity, since many of you mentioned tax time - approximately how much do you get back in taxes from owning a house? I assume it depends on your payment?

I think it depends on alot of different factors. I have no idea how much we will get back yet.
