Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
No. We're getting married in a church and we are not tipping the priest.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
We are getting married by a rabbi and we decided we would buy her a gift certificate to a spa because she is spending so much time with us.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
We paid top dollar for all of our vendors; therefore did not feel the need to tip. In the end, we ended up tipping the band b/c they did such a phenominal job. We didn't plan on it, had no tip envelope and DH went upstairs to the room to get the $.

We didn't tip the Rabbi. I thought that would be slightly disrespectful. We did want to buy him something - a bottle of wine etc...but didn't have time before the wedding

Our officiant is invited to our reception. We also plan to give her a gift.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
I didn't send out a formal invite, figured they could attend the cocktail hour. I'm just wondering now if a gift would be more appropriate than a 'Tip'. Why am I so clueless about this, lol. Thanks ladies

I think if you feel a tip is awkward, a gift is a nice gesture.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
we didn't--simply cause i think the rate is high as it is for 30 min. of work. lol we paid $449 and our officiant runs her own inter-faith ministry and performs like 2-3 weddings a day on the wknds. since she owned the 'business' i didn't feel she need a tip on top of the ceremony fee

maybe We should change our minds.. were paying 650 for 30 mins.. no rehersal either.. and he does 3 or 4 a weekend at least.. hmmm maybe I should not be tipping, it is a lot of $$ for 30 mins...

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
since we have to make a 'donation' to the church for $400, and another 'donation' to our organist for $100, we are not going to tip our Priest...

I think it really depends on who the person is. We are very reform, and our rabbi is about our age. We met with her in her apartment for our meetings.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
Our priest doesn't charge anyone to get married. He says to just give the church a donation if you like, but he doesn't give you a donation amount like some priests do, he says whatever the couple wants to donate, if anything at all. So, we are going to tip/donate something.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
We actually had 2 priests marry us at our church. One was a visiting priest who co-celebrated w/ the priest from my parish. We made donations to both churches. We didn't feel comfortable tipping our priests.

Re: Did you TIP/Are you TIPPING......
Nope, didn't feel it was necessary.
Also, if it is a religious ceremony and the officiant is a priest, pastor, rabbi etc - do not 'tip' them, as it is considered somewhat disrespectful. A lot of people will give a donation to the church or what not instead. We chose not to though, as I don't belong to the church of the pastor we used, his fee was sufficient
