did you use digital photographer or film?

Ladies,

Did your photogragher use a digital camera or traditional film? My fiance is of the mindset that digital will not be good enough quality...

the quotes I've been seeing for film seem VERY high to us, but I've been seeing some really pretty work done with a digital camera...

any feedback?

Ours used digital which was great because he was able to see if our eyes were closed and if so, he'd take the picture again. He actually showed us some on the camera. I would go for the digital

Yeah, I would think that digital would be better cause then you get to get a digital CD of the pictures and can get your own reprints made for 15 cents at walmart.com one hour photo, hehehe....

but i just wanted to hear from brides whose photographers used digital and they got their pictures back that they were happy with the results....

to those who responded already -- do you have a recommendation for a photographer? I've heard great things about the Queens Bridal Center?

Digital. I was told that film is better if you are enlarging your portraits (I mean like poster size) which I will not be doing.

Is 8x10 the largest that digital can handle without looking pixely?

TY so much!

And no, depending on the file size and quality of equipment, you can enlarge as you would with film with digital. For example, some of my files are 6MB each (picture!) so I can enlarge a LOT without pixelating...but I have no desire to go larger than 11X16. I could do posters or larger if I wanted to though.

Digital. Like the other girl said, the photographer can see if a pic didn't come out good right on the spot and take another one. Also, once the wedding is over most photogs will post the pics online so your family members and friends can browse the pics and order them from online. It is very convenient

Ours used digital and film for the B&W pictures.

Ours used film and I was extremely pleased, that being said, I am sad I don't have them all digitally right now but I really can't complain--I was thrilled with the results and we get all the negatives!

There are a couple of points to consider-I've asked a lot of people on this so this will be long.

Film has nice texture and I like traditional pics- nice color and detail...they have to re-load cameras tho and may miss shots...my MOH used Film for her portraits and digial for everything else. Not all studios do that-she used Silverfox.

Digital- you don't have to worry about enlargements- I have a 5 mp camera and I have made an 8x10 and it looked just fine and I'm partial to film. They use high mp cameras (like 14-18) so the detail is there. They are more flexable and you can see if people are blinking. They told me that they color correct the pics (bc digitial can't capture color the way film does) but they color correct film as well.

On the digital re-print side- unless they give you the re-touched pics on CD they won't be the same, actually, they won't be quite what the studio gives you regardless. It's not a horrible thing tho- They say that the same is said for film re-prints. Every pic printing has variables and there is a range of 'acceptable' and they may vary when comapred. That's not preventable and the studios have to deal with it too. Chemicals may be different etc. There are a million variables. I'm OK with that so long as the re-print looks good!!

My FH and I saw a few albums and when they told us that one was digital we had to go back because we couldn't tell!! Sherwood is going almost all digital and they are award winning. I have gotten 2 tips from trusted people who know these things- the more expensive the cameras they use the better the quality (5,000 or more) and award winning studios are on top to technology and will give you quality.

Good luck! I'm still searching too!!

digital is the new wave, film is getting less and less common. some people sware film is the 'real' thing. If you have a good photographer, you won't be able to tell the difference, and they can do cool stuff with digital like B&W with color photos. (the pics you can see where the bride is in B&W and her bouquet is color for example) that is digital.

I can't tell the difference. But I prefer digital because the pictures can be fixed and touched up if you don't like one thing about the photo, etc.

I prefer and will be using digital. I guess its just a matter of opinion but with digital theres no real limit- you can get as many pictures as you want and then they all are given to you with a CD- you can also have different digital effects, if you want one picture in both color and black and white this can be done. The min 'proofs' was guaranteed to me was about 1,000 pics!

I prefer film.. But I know the photographer we're thiking of booking gives you both. He shoots fi;m and then converts it to digital, so you get all of the versatility of digital and the quality of film.
