C-We bought our house from my parents. It is smaller than most houses (3 bedroom-1 bath) but I can't even keep up with the dust! We will probably stay here until we retire.

Re: Did/Are you buying...
We bought a starter home (a townhouse) as our first house. It was good enough for a while and would hold us over for our first child.

C. If we end up staying on LI we'll most likely stay in this house forever. We have a large unfinished attic so we can add 2 bedrooms and a bath when we're ready. That'll make it a 4 BR 2 bath house which is what I grew up in so to me it's more than enough! As another poster mentioned, I can't even keep up with the dust either! It drives me nuts!

We bought a 4 bedroom 1 bath cape. It's 56 X 100 so we can extend if we want. To me it is better than a starter home but not necessirily where i want to retire unless we make some addition to it.

We are not looking to move into a 'dream home', but definitely a place that we can stay in until we retire. We are looking for something that over time, we can mold into our dream place.

a) your dream home
I don't know if it has everything I want, but it's definitely a house we fell in love with. We really loved a lot of things about it, and I think maybe we will stay there for 10-15 years. My only concern is that the third bedroom isn't too big and that the school district is not the greatest. But we don't have kids yet, and I don't even know when or if I'm planning on having them.

We are going to buy a Nice house- something on the water- at least 4 or 5 bedrooms ( with a pool hopefully- otherwise my FH wont let me put one in)- it will probably need work- so I plan on making it in the style I like- stucco, Mediterranean looking
I don't consider it my 'dream house' b/c it's my first house-My dream house is basically the same thing but on the intercoastal in Florida

Re: Did/Are you buying...
Well right now DH and I are looking for a 4 bedroom house in Manhasset with a fireplace, jacuzzi, and an in-ground swimming pool, along with an office. This will definitely not be my dream home. My dream home will be in Pelham about 3-4 yrs from now.

I would say it is my dream home! I could not honestly ask for anything more! Of course I would love to have a house on the water but other then that, we will be here for quite a long time!!

We bought something we will grow out of in 5 years or less. But it's what we could afford in the area we wanted I can't wait to look for houses again and move. I had so much fun

C - We bought a house we can grow into and we have been improving it since we moved in. We wanted our dream house but I had sold my co-op so we had to find something pretty quick. We bought in a great location and have room to expand, which we plan on doing in two years. We will probably stay in this house until we retire.

a and b - I love the house we are buying, but it is a great investment so I am pretty sure we will sell it in 5 years or so (we are getting it for much less than it was appraised for).

Re: Did/Are you buying...
We hope to buy a condo to start with. Right now we are renting and by April we will start looking for the condo. We hope to stay their for a couple of years then because once we own a house and have kids I will have to go back to work. My goal is to be with the kids during their younger years.

Re: Did/Are you buying...
We bought a home that was in move in condition - but we decided to personalize it while we werent living in it to make it more of a dream home for us.
Thank god we don't have to live there while the renovation is going on. We are so lucky to be able to live where we are still living and just work on the house in our free time.
Finally after 7 weeks of hard work we have started painting. Soon we will be in and able to enjoy the home that we have been working so hard on.
The great thing about our house is that there is so much room for expansion. The house is a Levitt cape with an Attached Garage. We still can expand over the garage, and build back and not make our backyard too small. The size of the property is 64X100, and our yard is huge.
In the future I would love to put a full dormer on the house, and Possibly a Florida room in the yard....We will need a bathroom upstairs too.....
If you are able to, I recommend buying a house that needs work, so you can fix it up to your liking. I know its a lot of work, and sometimes you will think it is never going to end, but believe it will and when it is finally finished, you can say - WOW we did this.....and admire how nice it looks.

we plan to eventually buy our dream home in NC after i finish grad school there. we will never be able to afford a house here, let alone our dream home, so we are fine with moving. my fi parents just bought a home in raleigh, so we won't be alone in the state. ~lacey
