I saw a post a few days ago about those on the board w/ IBS. I want to go on a diet, but I am concerned because of my IBS. I know with Weight Watchers you need to eat a lot of veggies which would put me in dire pain. Anyone w/ bad tummies out there try any diets that were effective, healthy, and will not give me a 'flare up'. Thanks in advance!

Re: Diets for thoses w/ IBS
there is a great book called 'eating for ibs' or something like that. it recommends different options and recipes. i personally have more problems eating fatty foods, than i do eating veggies. i currently am doing the south beach diet. i just avoid anything that gives me flare ups.

Re: Diets for thoses w/ IBS
i have IBS and have been doing pretty well with WW - i stick to the points plan and not core- i don't eat too many veigtables becaus ehtey make me sick and i need bread - only thing that settles my stomach
I use low fat whole wheat wonder bread -or similar - 2 slices 1 point i can eat carrots and corn without a problem so i will have those throughout the day Also i use the low carb wraps - they are usually high in fiber that i can digest and not too many points
I couldn't do south beach i got sick - WW is more about portion control with what you are eating and trying to cut out sugar

I had a problem with fatty foods as well...ended up beign a gallbladder problem (I had to have it removed when I became very sick with gallstones!)
Now, my problem is if I DON'T eat for a long stretch, and then eat something heavy.....Very painful...

Hi I FM'd you. Also you might want to start off with cooked veggies...easier on the tummy.

Re: Diets for thoses w/ IBS
'IBS the first year' and 'Eating for IBS' by Heather Van Vorous helped me out a lot. This diet should not onl help your IBS symptoms be should 'normalize' your weight, according to the book.

Wow.. I just saw this post and got so happy! I've been living with IBS for about 7 years and never knew that there were books out there!
Thanks ladies for the information.
And good luck to you all!
Thanks again... Deb

Re: Diets for thoses w/ IBS
Thanks so much. I too can only stomach corn and carrots as far as veggies go (iceberg lettuce is okay in small portions). I begged my mom to just kill me one time I ate brocolli (it was cooked too!)
I just want to lose about 5-10 pounds, I am 126 and 5'4'...that shouldn't be too unreasonable I hope. My main thing is working out and staying away from sweets (I LOVE SUGAR!) but the WW Cookies and Cream ice cream should help ease that craving...yum!
Oh, just a little inside info...Quaker Oatmeal's Cinnimon Roll...when I eat that every day my stomach is actually able to handle more (cinnimon is actually a proven stomach relaxer and the fiber keeps the digestive system working properly). It tastes good too and is good for you, but may not work for carb-counters.
Thanks for the book suggestions! I will definitely look for 'em!
