so my daughter is at the beach today, and dropped her fairly new digital camera in the sand. She said that the retractable lense is having a hard time opening and closing.Thinking of using compressed air to try to remove the sand, but read this may damage it further. Thinking that she is just screwed. Anyone ever fix this problem?

Re: digital camera dropped in the sand
honestly, just put it in your purse (or hers) and carry it around for a week or two, the sand will dislodge eventually and you'll be able to use it.. if you set it on a shelf nothing will work and if you use compressed air it could damage the internal components because of the moisture from the air.

vacuum?
i also read that suggestion on the internet, but they said it was more risky than the canned air and to be careful...but I am thinking it may be the way to go cause of the moisture in the canned air.
Unfortunately, she is going on vacation on Monday, so she needs her camera..I think I am going to tell her to carry it around until like Sat, and then if not we will try the vacuum.

Is it a Nikon? If you bring it to their offices in Melville and are reallly nice to the guy at the customer service window they might be able to clean it out for you.
