I just got a Sony digital camera and don't know anything about digital photography. What would you recommend that I get with it? I know a memory card but what is the difference between a card and a stick? And would you get 256 or 512?
Also, someone told me to get a new charger than the one it came with- a rapid charger and a few extra batteries.
What else? Thanks!

The camera instructions should tell you exactly what kind of memory card/stick you need for that particular camera. When I got my camera, I bought a 256K card. It holds about 300 photos on the highest quality. I have a 3.2 megapixel camera. I don't think you should need more than 256K, unless you don't plan to upload pix to your computer for long periods at a time. We used the 256K card for the honeymoon - we deleted some bad shots to make room for others, and it was fine.
As far as chargers go, again, it depends on how often you're using the camera. Do you really need your batteries charged in half an hour? Since your camera came with a charger, I would probably just start using that one and if you find the need to charge batteries faster, then spend the money on a more expensive one. My camera didn't come with a charger or rechargable batteries, so I eventually bought one, b/c I was going through batteries so fast. I hope this helps!

THanks Jackie - it does. I think I'll start with the charger I have and then see. What kind of batteries do you have? I have the recahrgeable ones and I'm just wondering how long they will last approx.

That's the camera I got. Why did they tell you to get the 256? The guy at B&H told me I can get the 256 or the 512. I just didn't know which one to get.

My camera takes AA batteries. I recently bought rechargable ones. The problem I had is that my camera would often turn on in the case and waste the batteries, so I don't really know how long they would last normally.

My fiancee bought me the Canon G5. I have 512mb in addition to the 32mb that came with it. On the setting I use the most I get about 450 pics. It all depends on your needs. I upload my pics to my computers almost each time so I can email them.
The instructions online or in the book should say which format it accepts.
As with most portable electronics I get an extra battery if it's the rechargable one I use.
You will not get the same battery life but depending on the camera you can use AA in an emergency.
