Digital vs. Film

Anyone have any insight as to the differences in actual picutures between digital and film? Which do you prefer? What about price?

Thanks

FH and I liked the the film a little better....but it truely is a personal preferance.

There are some photographers who will shoot 1/2 film and 1/2 digital if you are unsure

we went with film in the end...but choose a digital album....so we will have it both ways

the look of film and digital used to be really different, but there's very little difference in quality anymore. digital is going to give you a whole lot more options ie. websites, electronically sending photos, etc.

it's really a myth that film looks better. think of the quality of records and cds. the record has more personality according to some, but the cds have the truest sound, with no mistakes. the same is true for film and digital. the older method will allow for a few imperfections and those may or may not give your photos personality. a digital camera (as long as it's a great digital camera) will give you clearer photos that also give you options.

i know i wouldn't want to spend hours scanning in hundreds of photos to share with family and friends.

I am going with digital as well and I am going to make my own albums.

Another benefit of digital is that you will get TONS more photos taken with a digital camera. You will also be able to manipulate digital pictures better as well. IE, make any photo you want black and white, sepia tone, etc...

Our photographer is using film that he will send to a digital photoalbum maker.

I asked this question a while back. Yes the pictures do look similar and it is hard to tell the difference. Yes you do get a lot more pictures with digital photography but digital pictures havent been around long enough to know how they will fare after time. 49 years after my parents wedding, the film pictures are still holding up. 22 years aafter my bat mitzvah, the film pictures are holding up. I'm too nervous and not that much of a slave to technology that I need to have digital. Not a risk taker with life long memories. Also, I have no desire to sit and sift through thousands of pictures.

Our Photographer is ALL DIGITAL.
I'm doing the album myself.
However, I don't consider myself a 'slave to technology'.

I'm an old fashioned girl! I prefer film to digital. I do agree with the convenience and editing values of digital but I feel more comfortable with film.

It truly doesn't make a difference to me. FH, however, wanted digital so that's what we're getting.

I prefer Film over digital. These days digital is getting better and better where you don't see too much of a difference, but I still see the colors are deeper in the print quality of film and you get more of those three dimensional tones, such as shadows or the way the light hits on certain angles. I just feel that there is more depth to the pictures with film. Digital photos to me look very flat and the colors arent' very strong.

The only great thing about digitial is that you can manipulate, edit, share with others.

We had mostly digital which is good IMO because if there is a pic you love but would want it in black and white... you can.

Years ago there was only one choice - film. Now that there are choices, I still prefer film in a digital world. My words were not meant to insult anyone, but to state my own preference. Sorry if you took it that way.
