Digital vs. Regular Camera

Hey Ladies,

My parents want to get FI and I a new camera for our HM.

I love the thought of a digital camera, but have a stupid question. If you have a digital camera, then how do you do a photo album???

Do you have to buy an expensive photo-quality printer?? Not 100% sure how this works.

Any advice??

I have both digital & regular, it depends on what you'd like better.

I love the digital for being able to share pics online, however, my heart still goes with my regualr camera. I am very much into photography & John bought me an (almost, close to) professional camera last christmas. I prefer this for pictures.

You can print your photos & make an album from your digital however I still like the quality & the idea of picking up my film from the store better.

Thanks Jenn!!! I agree with you on the album - regular pics are just so much nicer! I guess we could get a regular camera and scan them in and then post. I think I would rather have a nice album for the HM!

We have a digital camera and upload our pictures to Shutterfly. They are able to make regular prints on Fuji paper that come out great. I like that its easy to email or post pictures since they are already online and that you get to pick the pictures you want printed. They can do enlargements, cards, calenders, etc. You can alo add fancy borders and do minimal effects (change to b&w, sepia, crop)

There are several online photo services - ofoto is Kodaks company (which lets you make poster sized prints and has a lot of effects you can add to your picture) and snapfish (I don't know much about this one).

So if you upload to Shutterfly and then order prints, then come out like regular photos?? Almost like when you mail your film away?? I really want a nice album for the HM, but I love the convenience of digital.

I got a digital as a wedding present and I haven't used my regular camera in a long time because of it! I do love regular prints like the rest of you but my printer prints pretty high quality pics so most of the time you can't see the difference. Also like Christine said with uploading pics to Shutterfly and if you make reprints through them, they come out great. I like the digital for quick pictures say of a house you saw that you liked or for kids (how many times have I taken a pic of my twin nephews and they weren't looking!), you just delete them! I wouldn't get rid of my regular camera but I love the digital.

I am actually in the market for a new regular camera for a Xmas present to myself! (parents are giving us money so that is what I will buy.)

So, I've been looking at Minolta Freedom Line APS and 35 mm as well as Canon Elph sure shot APS (advanced photo system). Please advise -- does anyone have one of these cameras and if so how do they rate, compare, etc?

karen32-I took over 90 pictures on my digital on my honeymoon. Uploaded them to a shutterfly website and ordered only the pictures I wanted for my album. They come in about a week and they are regular pictures. The cost may be a little higher because it is .30-.50/pictures and s/h but you only pay for the ones you want and no film cost! They are great sites to work with because you can share pictures with your friends and have online albums!

I kind of price shop them. Some have specials going on. For my honeymoon, snapfish had the best price going on at that time (Nov).

PS for some reason only shutterfly allows you to post a web image to this site. So I usually order from teh cheaper sites but upload them to shutterfly as well just to post on this site.

I do the same as ChristineC68 and the pictures from Shutterfly come out amazing. I love them and I am constantly ordering pictures from them. I have no complaints and I like the pictures better from a digital than a regular camera.

I think they both are good. Im still learning how to use the digital camera we have. I LOVE the fact that you can look at the pics and decide what you want beforehand, and delet what you dont like.
The digital, you can also take to be developed rather print it too.

I have a digital and bring the chip to walmart to be developed. They charge about .29 cents a photo to develop.

Thanks for the info ladies!!! I didn't realize that you could print digital pics like regular pics. I do have a pretty decent regular camera, so it might be time to join the technology age and get a digital.

I have a digi-cam, and I havent ordered prints yet, but when I do, it will be w/Shutterfly or I'll brind them to Walmart. I'm gonna try both and see which turns out better.
I have a FUGI digital (not sure of the model -its at home, but it works great, user friendly and super sharp pics)

I think its LESS work to order 'regular' prints from a digital, than to scan your regular prints to email them out. And a digital picture is so much crisper looking !
I found this website that uses KODAK paper only, and the prices are great.

Their customer service is EXCELLENT ( A guy called me back at 9pm the other day when I emailed a question about my xmas pictures that I needed to get done asap. He was on the phone w me for an hour and personally worked on my fotos that night to ship them out the next day ! I never forget GOOD customer service !)
