Dilated...
Okay, so I was assuming that from now until my due date my doctor would check to see if I was dilated or not. But apparently she’s going to wait until I’m in my 39th week… is that normal?

I think every OB just has a different style. One reason some OBs like to 'check' is so when you call them at 3 a.m. with contractions they can think back to the last exam and guesstimate whether labor may really be going on. I think it is a double edged sword for the patient - because whether you are not dilated or even four centimeters, it really doesn't mean anything if you aren't contracting. So you may be either dissapointed or excited by what the doctor finds, but in the end, it's not super predictive of what is to come.
Mine does not check until 38 weeks for a first pregnancy. I did not make it to that appt. I am not sure why they bother to check anyhow. No dilation can still mean a baby within 24 hrs. Many girls here will tell you that 4cm could mean 2 weeks stuck at that num too.
I agree with what Victoria said, and I think that's why my midwife didn't really measure me until just a week before my EDD.
