Dilema about wedding cake...(kind of long)

I have heard that the wedding cakes at the Swan Club basically are horrible! Most of the people I have talked to on here have said that they were gross! And they are made on the premises. And I talked to a 2005 Bride who is getting her cake elsewhere and they DON'T GIVE YOU CREDIT to go somewhere else.

So the other night my FI and I were talking about what other things we need to book and I said well cake...and he was like what about the Swan Club and I told him that I have heard from many people that the cakes are horrible. He told me that this is just an added expense that we don't need. I don't want A BAD CAKE!!!

I don't know what to do

I haven't heard anything about Carlyle on the Greens' cakes, but you can bet that if I find out they stink, I'll be buying a cake from the outside also! I love sweets.. and I'm not going to suffer through my own wedding cake.. it's gonna be the end-all-be-all in sugary confections! lol (can you tell I'm such a sugar junkie?!)

I read in a book once that a good way to save money on a wedding cake is to have a smaller one made for you to cut and then have a sheet'style cake in the back that will be cut for the guests. I'm not sure exactly how this would wok, but it would be a good compromise between you and your fh!

The wedding cake is probably going to be the last thing that you and the guests will eat for the night and that is the experience that they will take home with them. You want it to be awesome. I say get a cake form theoutside. It will cost you $$ but at least you won't worry about it.

I just don't want people walking away saying it was gross!!! And I know if its bad I will obsess about it for a long time...so really if my FI wants to make HIS LIFE easier he can pay for a cake so he doesn't have to hear me bit(h for the rest of his life

in reference to CC59's post:

i read about a similar idea on liw. something about a fake cake where only a small portion of the cake is real, which is the part you would cut together... and the rest of it is actually made up of styrofoam or some other material but they make it look real. in the back they have the same version of your wedding cake in sheet cake form so it tastes the same but it's much cheaper since they don't have to worry about the tiers and extra decorations, etc.

you should try searching for it. i think the subject was something like 'fake cake.'

Is there anyway you can try it before then maybe at a tasting? Not everyone has the same taste. I'd try it for myself first before I go out and spend extra money on a cake. If you don't like it then I would hire an outside baker.

I agree 100%!! See if you can taste the cake before you make your decision.

Since theyrgoing to make you a cake anyway..let them make the cake, cut it with the ceremony...then bring in huge sheet cakes from costco to serve.

I don't think it's that big a deal. People don't expect wedding cake to be greart
