DH & I talked even before we got married about putting an extension onto the house but having heard some construction horror stories we are both a bit worried about it now. I am starting to think that looking for a new house instead might be a better way to get most of what we want in a house.
I own the house free & clear with no mortgage. My daughter wouldn't be happy if I sold because my former fiance bought the house (she considered him her stepdad but he passed away). I also like where we live because it is in a very convienent location for me. Easy access to the bus, 15 minute walk to work.

Re: Dilemma
why not take your DD out for coffee and have a heart to heart with her...maybe she would like moving into a different house when you explain things to her...and she would appreciate that you included her into the decision

Re: Dilemma
what would your decision be if she says no?
would you try to talk her into it...point out the good things (write these down before the conversation)
ask her her concerns. try to look for a house that might benefit her...
maybe do it over ice cream...who can be upset when eating ice cream?

HERE!! the best reference is word of mouth!
I think it's silly to go sell your perfectly fine home and go find something else, which would mind you most likely need some fixing up with today's market, and expecially considering that you don't owe any money on your mortgage!! is you crazy woman! lol

Re: Dilemma
She needs 2 different types of contractors

Re: Dilemma
I know of a great contractor in Nassau County (not sure where you are) they did the 2 extensions on my parents house many years apart and their work continued to be terrific. FM me if you're interested.

Re: Dilemma
Jodi, don't sell your house. Chances are whatever you bought would need work anyway. Even if it's big enough for you there're so many things that might not be to your liking-the kitchen, the bathrooms, paint, floor, etc. Look around and research, research, research. You'll find someone.
