Dilemma

Dilemma

Hey all:

Boosh's job is cracking down and she recently got raked over the coals for excessive e-mail use and internet use. She isn't the only offender but for some reason they are targeting her. She works very hard, gets her work done and stays late all the time, and she really doesn't abuse the system that much -- thye are just really being anal.

Anyway, Boosh is now miserable at her job and would like to start looking, but
she is torn. She's been there 7 years and feels that since we will be
TTC very soon, she wants the benefit of paid maternity. Since she has
senority, she wants to take advantage of whatever they give her. She
feels if she leaves now and gets something else and then gets
pregnant, the maternity leave may not be as good, it may be unpaid,
who knows. But, she also wants to find something down the line that
has part-time options (with reasonable money of course), so now may be
the time to get in somewhere else.

She also feels that if she starts somewhere new and gets preggo right
away, her new place might be annoyed and make things difficult down
the road. My feeling is that pregnancy is human nature. You can't
and shouldn't put job plans on hold because of what might or might not
happen. I mean, if she got preggo right way, they cannot fire her,
legally. And since this is normal human nature, I don't think it
would be that bad and any normal company would understand.

In light of this, I also said that maybe we should wait until she gets
preggo and is on maternity before starting to look for a job. She'll
be home so she'll be able to go out for an hour interview and have a
little more flexibility. At the very least she can do more research.
Then on her first day back at her current job, she can resign. That
would be awesome!

Any thoughts on this?

i dont know how much help i can be, but your last statement seems good. wait until the time comes if it is the maternity leave that you are concerned with. thats a good option.

but, i also have come to realize that ANYTHING can happen at any time, and sometimes job security is not what it seems. so if she is unhappy and is looking to leave, then i think she should puruse it right away.

it really is a personal choice. i would want her to unhappy for that long at her job, you know?

did i make any sense?!

Re: Dilemma

Well I can only talk from my experience.
As soon as I found I was pregnant, I just happened to find a new job and I didn't say anything until I was already hired. the bad thing about this was that I only got unpaid maternity leave since I didn't have enough time with the company.
If this is something that is bothering her a lot and she can't take it, than she should try to find a better job but at the same time your situation is kind of uncertain at this point, so with that in mind I would think more about it. Hope that helps.

Re: Dilemma

i agree with what you said at the end that she can go out on maternity leave when she is preggo and start looking for a new job and when she returns to the old one just resign and say goodbye and walk out. good luck to boosh.lots of hugs.

Re: Dilemma

well I am an advocate of not wishing your life away because no one knows what tomorrow will bring..with that said..to go to a job day in and day out that I absolutely hate is no way to spend a single day of your life..lets say you are TTC...it takes 3 months..then she's preggo 9 months..waiting for this maternity package..that is another year of her going to this dreaded place day in and day out..When my co-workers complain about their jobs I think they are crazy..I don't have any problems with my employers. Is she maybe just in a rut right now? If she is, that can so easily carry into your feelings of your job. If their is a way to improve her current atmosphere I would try that..If not..then I would not hold onto the job for the maternity package..

Re: Dilemma

It's a tough call. Both scenarios present some very valid points. But the last thing Christine will need when she's ready to have Don Jr. is a stressful job. I did while I was PG and it was near impossible to manage the demands my job made on me on top of continual morning sickness, etc. Not that I'm saying she'll be 'blessed' with the same situation (I'll keep my fingers that she never will have M/S that bad). But if her job does not appear to be flexible in any aspect, the last thing they'll want to hear is that she needs some compassion because she's become best friends with the Tidybowl man every morning. True too for a newer job. Any chance you can expedite the family planning process?

Re: Dilemma

I would have to agree - I would just stay where I am until the time comes to have to quit - (after maternity leave) -
With trying to concieve I really don't think Boosh needs the 'extra' stress of having to look for another job and all the what ifs that go along with it - Then if she got another job -and hates it than what?
I would definetly stay where I am - even though there being sh*tty to her right now - that will eventually change - I know, I've been there.
Good Luck in whatever the decision.

Don... I would tell Boosh to stay there until she's preggo, go on maternity leave, and start looking for a new job. When the leave is over, and she has something new lined up. Quit, and leave all that insanity behind.

Wanted to send you guys these first:

The problem I see with waiting and going on job interviews while on maternity leave is that by then, she will probably be visibly pregnant. A lot of companies may not be willing to hire her b/c of it.

Don:

If it were me... i'd do what Oscar said. Let her get preggo. Then have her paid maternity.... then just quit. This happens all the time.

With that said... I wish you some....

I think they meant AFTER the baby is born.
