When your table is not in use, do you leave it bare or with a table cloth?

My table is glass and I have a runner that I put across it. Some other times I put fancy cloth place mats on as well...it's either one or the other though.

me too - linens when dining at the table only - which means entertaining. Normally, my table is bare wood with a runner and centerpiece.

I keep in covered all of the time...dh has a bad habit of throwing keys on it, books, pens etc.
I use a table pad and put a table cloth over that, and than I have a plastic thing over the table cloth..extra protection so when dh horses around with it, it doesn't get scratched or ruined..
ETA: My table is all wood.

Same here. Everyday there is a runner and cp. For dining I use a pad and cloth. For tea/coffee/cake with a friend I put down placemats.
