Direct TV

Does anyone have direct TV? We were thinking of going with Direct TV..Cable i hear is going to be doing another increase and i just HATE cablevision, and i think that we could get more for our money with Direct TV.. does anyone have it have any opinions on it?

I have it and love it. I havent had regular cable since 1998 so I dont know how much it has changed but back then there was a huge difference. You just get so many more channels for about the same money plus there are features that I cant live without know that Im used to them (the programming guide, the info button and the favorites settings).

cable is terrible, for 101.00 i get the internet and only basic cable..with channel 6.. is direct TV cheaper?

I LOVE Direct TV. I don't know what I would do with out it. Its much cheaper than cable and the quality is def better.

DirectTV was not cheaper for us and we dont have internet service through them so I cant say. I think we pay about $100/month but we have showtime and hbo and NFL ticket. Its definitely worth what it costs.

I think its cheaper only because you pay in your contract $12 for 1 HBO channel with cable and with Direct Tv you get like 6 -8 channels of HBO (something like that). Its the same with Showtime and all other channels. I pay about $100 but have almost all the movie channels and stuff. I use Cable for my internet.

I think i will talk to DH tonight about switching...if cables going to go up then i am going to be paying more for only 50 something channels than you guys pay for like millions!!!LOL...

my husband just did tons and I mean tons of research on these lol
online for hours
turned out switching to IO digital cable was cheaper
we have about 180 channels, the info button, guide, 11 or 12 hbo's and starz etc...... and some other cool features such as playing blackjack and the mag rack, forum mail if you have more questions

direct tv: only drawback is if you have more than one tv in the house as most people do, then you have to pay for each room to have a set up in each room, they only give you two I think, same thing w/ dish

the pic is great though now, especially if you have a wide screen tv

the only thing that stinks about Direct TV is that when it's bad weather (e.g. the storm on Christmas) the signal gets all messed up and you can't watch tv! (which goes for any satellite cable).
other than that, it's great

in the almost 2 yrs i had direct tv, what miro27 mentioned happened to me twice & it was for literally 2 or 3 minutes

The only time the signal gets messed up is if it is like torrential downpours. But we also have basic cable in case that happens. But since we don't pay anything for the direct tv-it's definately worth it!

That only happens for a few minutes during a very bad storm (when the worst of the storm passes overhead). When I had cable, it was going out a lot more frequently than a few minutes every few months.

whoops - didnt mean to imply that that happens frequently, because it surely does not!
(however, on Christmas it WAS out for an extended period of time! - but that's a rare/severe case).

the only good thing about digital cable though is if it goes out, it goes out less and they reset your box right from the phone.... the guy doesnt have to go outside, and to your house
etc

Tammy: No one from DirectTV has ever come to my home. We installed it 4 years ago and have never had to call DirectTV once.

Miro: My cable was uninterrupted on Christmas (Lukes niece was watching it all day!) and the snow was really coming down. Maybe your satelite isnt properly aligned or there is something obstructing from a clear view?

who knows! all i know is that i recorded the sarah hughes special (im a dork, i know) on my TiVo and when i went to watch it it was all blotchy and choppy and interrupted and i was mad!

sonic-no, not w/ direct tv
w/ regular cable, the guy usually is in the area
etc.....
but w/ digital you call them and they reset it instantly

I never had direct tv, we were going to get it but every controller was additional and we needed a few of them
