Direction Card Question - WITH POLL!

Direction Card Question - WITH POLL!

So... as we all are... I am on a budget.

With that said I have a question about direction cards and my invitations.

I am going to get direction cards from my church and direction cards from my hall.

I really DO NOT want to make direction cards from my church to the hall. How do we feel about this?

I mean with this day and age... don't you think most people have heard of Mapquest or something?! Plus, we have a decent gap between the church and the reception... and I am sure all of my family will stick together and one of the guests from around here will show the few who may not know how to get the reception hall how to get there.... right?

LOL thanks in advance ladies.

I agree with you. I think what you want to do is enough. Most people won't go directly from the church to the hall anyway, and like you said, there's mapquest! We're nice to provide any directions for them lol!

that's actually a good point..

what is the timing of your day? will people be going directly from the church to the hall?

Our reception immediately follows the ceremony. So, we actually made 1 direction card with directions to the church, and from the churh to the hall. That is it. (if anyone is too lazy or late to make the ceremony, they're on their own )

gotta say i don't think i've ever seen an invite with the direction card from the church to the hall. you're fine w/o it, it's just one more thing that ppl can lose!

like another poster said....most ppl don't go straight from the church to the hall...so you will be good to go with just the two cards

Do people even do direction cards to the church? Not sure...haven't been to too many weddings myself

Keep it simple. We are having everything at one place but have to have directions for older folks who can't use mapquest. We have a lot of old people coming We are not even going to make map 'cards'. We are just going to print them on regular paper and then cute them to size. Much less expensive. Maybe not 'proper etiquette' but our invites are super simple anyway and people will throw the directions away. besides if they did it via mapquest, it'd be on paper!

I think most people will use mapquest or gmaps, but if you want a cheap alternative:

I bought cardstock from ac moore
(maybe cost me 12 dollars) and printed out the directions to the church, to the reception hall, and from the church to the hotel (our ceremony is before check in time and the reception is way after check in time). A shuttle will bring hotel guests to RH (which is like less than .5 miles away).

I am sure everyone has heard of Mapquest and like a previous poster said, most people do not go directly from the Church to the reception .

Re: Direction Card Question - WITH POLL!

we ignored the church and hall direction cards, and had an insert made for the invitations....

directions to church
directions from church to hall

(no directions directly to hall, becuase I'm not going to enable those who skip out on the ceremony

I thought about typing up a card with general directions to the church & then directions from the church to the hall, but I'm not sure if I'll do it. I think most people ignore those cards & use mapquest anyway. I know I do. I think general directions to both should be just fine.

People will figure it out. Don't worry.

Re: Direction Card Question - WITH POLL!

You know, you'd be surprised. We did online-only registries because I thought everyone had bought stuff from Amazon, or could figure it out, as everyone's on the Internet. Well, we got complaints about it--'my card number will be stolen!' 'I don't GET how to do this!' 'Why can't you do a normal registry??' So we had to open a registry at Bed Bath and Beyond for the people who couldn't manage to buy things online.

I know you're on a budget, but how about printing out one card with all the driving info on it? You don't have to have your invitation printer do it, you could do it yourself and save money. After all, the cards from the church and the hall didn't match your invites, so the one you print doesn't have to match exactly either. Besides, it would be neater to have one card. I think your guests would appreciate it.

Re: Direction Card Question - WITH POLL!

We did the church to the hall direction cards BUT we only used 2 card inserts in our invitations. It worked out great and it was very easy.

Our hall gave us their direction cards so we didn't have to make one up,but we did make one up for directions to the actual church. At the bottom of the church direction card, we had put directions from church to reception on there and it was simple stating to please follow directions from Brooklyn to reception. Our family actually called us and thanked us for putting it on there. It was simple and didn't take up time.

we actually did directions from the church to the hall only, but included directions to the church in the OOT boxes. HTH

I've never seen direction cards to a church, just to the RH.
Just stick with the two cards.
