I had my hair and make up done yesterday. I was so disappointed. The make up artist made me look like Cruella Deville(sp?) with all the eye make up. I told her earth tones, natural. I want to look like me. Everyone laughs but I looked like mini me next to her!!! Ok hair. It took this guy less than 10 minutes. He took my hair out of a pony tail put a few barrel curls in and my tiara. No spray, nothing. I said I have curly hair. Really curly but when I wear it in a pony tail it gets straight on top a curly on the bottom. He kept saying oh the day of we will tease and give you more volume. This that and the other thing. Wasn't he suppose to do it like it was the day. Did he not want my business? This is the worst part yet!

Re: Disapointed with trials
Why don't you go to your normal hair salon & go for a trial. Seeing that they know your hair they will be able to do what's best.
As for make-up some artist feel that you have to be VERY made up to look great in the photos. But, I agree if you don't like it then it's not you. Definately try some others. Maybe you can find a someone to come to your house the day of. Alot of past brides had great luck w/ Jacqueline Nicole, Jennifer from Fairytale & Oksana. Why don't you give them a call.

Re: Disapointed with trials
I had about 5 makeup trials including a vendor on this board until I found my artist. One of the best ways to find a makeup artist is to go to the mall and go to a makeup counter and ask to have your face made up by someone whose makeup looks like what you like. If the person looks like Cruella Devlle then she is not touching my face. Don't get discouraged. You'll be beautiful on your day.

Re: Disapointed with trials
I had that problem with my makeup. She made me SOOOO pink! (I'm rosey to begin with) it was terrible. I had to go to another place and I brought the picture and said, 'this is what I DON'T want to look like.' She made me more natural looking. GL

Re: Disapointed with trials
I had to have two makeup and two hair trials. Cost me a fortune but it was worth the peace of mind of knowing everything how everything will look. I also didnt use the first people who did my hair and makeup...I used the second round of people.

see, i can't justify spending so much $$$ on trials... i understand people need to get paid for their time, but the figures that are thrown around are crazy for someone to take an hour and make me look like a clown
i am currently screwed as i have no hair or makeup person. i think i am going to skip the makeup professional alltogether, but do need to find someone to take care of my mop...

Re: Disapointed with trials
That hairdresser sounds awful, get someone else for hair -- I agree about going to your regular stylist. As far as the makeup, sometimes it does take a few trials... I just had my third trial on Tues and I was very happy with it. I wasn't even going to do another trial because they were getting so expensive (luckily this 3rd one was free) and actually I already had booked the last person who did the mini me thing to me also. But, I liked her makeup. Unfortunately, in the end it looked better on her than on me. But I agree that that is usually a good way to choose your makeup artist -- make up counter, and see if you like the way she did her own. Good luck and keep trying!

PLEASE send me recommendations for Makeup and hair trials, the wedding is in Syosset, so it would have to be in Nassau or Queens - where I live, help.

This is precisely why we have make-up trials! I'm sorry that you didn't like it, you'll find someone who will be comfortable with.

my makeup artist works at the Trish McEvoy counter at Bendel's. he is totally into natural looking brides. he bit*hes and complaines about overmade brides and said he would not do it if I wanted to go glam, lol. FM me if you would like his number.

Go to the MAC store in Roosevelt Feild Mall, OR Bloomingdales MAC. - ALL of their staff is extremely professional and they will DO WHAT YOU TELL THEM TO - NOT what THEY think is appropriate. - Also, it's a free trial !!

Re: Disapointed with trials
I was also disappointed with my trials and decided to do my own makeup. The makeup person seemed like she bought the Bobbi Brown kit and had no training. The eye makeup was so different on one eye vs the other and she didn't see it. Also- she used fuschia eye shadow!!! Yeah- she had bad skills AND bad judgement so I am doing it myself. I want my hair down but curly and the woman tired to sneak bobby pin in everywhere. I couldn't get through to her that I wanted it down compelety with nothing in it. She said OK and then put more pins in it and was putting the back up in these little pin curls. ugh Go to someone else and in my opinion - I'd spend the money on a makeup lesson from someone really good and do it yourself. Some of these so called makeup artists have no training and charge way too much.

Did you try Jacquline Nicole? She is a vendor on here, and her trials are free.

Re: Disapointed with trials
If it puts your mind at ease...I went to my first hair trial...70 dollars later I looked like I came out of an 80's Bridal Magazine..It was terrible. I just made aptments with 3 other places. I agree, I am def. willing to spend the money for piece of mind..
I am really picky about my hair, so if any of the places turn out well..I will fm you the places..

Oksana is located in Fresh Meadows and if you go to her the trial is only $35. I've seen her work on here and it looks wonderful.
