disaster (relatively speaking) - and a question.

disaster (relatively speaking) - and a question.

so my dress may not be fixed in time for the wedding. it's such a small thing (the seaming on the bust) but it makes the dress look so bad, and i am so upset with the bridal shop right now. i went for my fitting last night and it still wasn't fixed, so i am facing the reality that i may need to get a new dress.

my question for your girls is: has anyone used david's bridal for alterations? i have no problems buying a dress off the rack but with my wedding in 11 days, i can't really be picky about who alters it. please help with any advice you have!!

I have heard past brides rave about Phyllis at Bridal Elegance.
Might be a better shot than David's.

So far I haven't had a problem with David's. There was alot to take up on my dress and alot of bead work on the bottom and when I went for my 2nd fitting it looked like they were doing a good job, but they were still working on it.

I think you would have better luck taking your current dress to a seamstress than trying to get a whole new gown. Is there a reason why the seamstress cannot fix the gown in time? If you can find someone to do the work, it seems like you have enough time for that.

My SIL had a horrible experience with David's alterations, but this was a few years ago before they moved to the Source Mall. Her seamstress ruined her dress - it was all uneven at the hem and not even close to straight. It was so bad, the store had to order her a new dress and start all over.

That said, this is just one person's experience at the old location. Many brides have good experiences there and I understand they've gotten better recently about customer service and alterations.

Ugg!!! That is so annoying. Could you take your dress to a seamstress near your home? I am sure that someone out there could fix the dress before the wedding!!! That is so unprofessional, I cannot believe it.

My dress was designed and made by a seamstress named Mika Inatome. If you can come into the city, I think she might help you out.

I have heard some bad stories about David's bridal for alterations on this site and also from people I know. My sister had her daughters flower girl dress altered there and they took it in instead of letting it out and then told my niece she was too 'chunky' when it didn't fit!

I just came from my 2nd dress fitting at David's. All they had to do was hem it, bussle it and add straps. The hem was longer on one side and the lady kept trying to fluff the dress to cover it!!! I kept saying it is too long on this side. Finally she pinned it and agreed to fix it. The straps were too big. They have to fix those too. They did get the bussle right though. I would probably try somewhere else if you can.

I wouldn't go with David's Bridal they will charge you the standard $35 plus an extra $50 for rush that what happened to me then one of the girls there in alterations took it home and did it for me becasue she felt so bad. My problem was I was lied to about the sample dress I tried on. It had a bustle already on it and the girl was showing how it looked bustled up and I found out 1 1/2 weeks before the wedding that it didn't come with the bustle. I was so pissed but it was special order so i was stuck until my mom went in and screamed at the lady in charge in alterations. So the one girl was nice enough to take it home and put the bustle on for me 5 days before the wedding. It would take them 2 weeks if they did it there. But I would not go there especially 1 week before the wedding. Go to someone who would care about the dress looking good David's Bridal seemed not to care.
