Discolored Tooth Question

Discolored Tooth Question

Okay one of my teeth in the front of my mouth has always been a little discolored (yellowish) and slowly is getting worse and now i am getting embarrassed by it. My bday is coming up and i was thinking of asking my DH to pay for a dentist to put a veneer on it. Its very expensive to do even one but i just want one to match the other teeth?

Does anyone have this issue? Has anyone gotten a veneer done? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well my co-worker had her one tooth whitened. It wasn't too expensive and the Dentist told her it would last a long time. Since it was just 1 tooth it wasn't a big deal.

Re: Discolored Tooth Question

My teeth are really straight (thanks to 5 years of braces) so i don't need more then the one....A couple of years ago i did Bright Smile at a dentist for $800 and while it whitened my teeth the one tooth stayed the yellow (lighter though). I can't afford to do that twice a year so that dentist told me to maybe get a veneer on the two front teeth......I don't want this to make me not want to smile.

I haven't done it. I'm sure it's worth the $$ though. I did professional bleaching and to me, it made absolutely NO difference whatsoever in my teeth. I was highly disappointed.

Yup..that would be me
I had one tooth that was a little discolored. I had my dentist check it out...happen to be trauma from wearing braces twice and the nerve was a tad damaged, which is why it was darker. He was able to whiten that tooth and only that tooth.
The tooth blends w/the others. He also recommended that had I bleached/whitened my whole mouth that tooth would of always been a shade different than others.

I have that problem also....like Deb, from 3 years of braces. I hate it (2 of my 4 front teeth) and my dentist too said he would NOT recommend whitening b/c these teeth would not change. I was questioning what I was going to do. I didn't know you could 'whiten' just 1 tooth.

I'd be afraid the veneer would look weird on just one tooth.

Re: Discolored Tooth Question

I had veneers put on my top four front teeth about 20 years ago - they held up very well. I do not have naturally white teeth so I had considered a professional whitening process. My dentist told me not to bother because the teeth that had the veneers wouldn't match the teeth that didn't. You simply cannot change the color of a veneer. In order to do that, I would have to take the veneers off, THEN bleach my teeth and have brand new veneers put on.

As it stands right now, I wish to widen my smile with a palate expander. After that I will need braces to close the gaps that will have formed. Then I will need new veneers. So before I get the new veneers, I'll do the whitening. I am lucky to have an orthodontist in the family who is not going to charge for the orthodontics, just the veneers. However, it is a process that will take at least two years and I have to wait until AFTER the wedding to do it.

Re: Discolored Tooth Question

i have porcelin veneers on my two front teeth- had gotten them done before I got married. I had a lot of other work done- periodontal.. etc but i think mine came out to $750 per tooth- i think part of mine was covered through insurance. And I paid it off in installments. It was well worth it.Before that. My teeth were bonded by a horrible dentist and I walked around like that for years. After I got my teeth done, I couldnt believe the difference. I smiled much more often!!!
