dishartend

Hi everyone. I am new to LI weddings but have been engaged for almost 2 years and getting married on 10/10/08.
I am the typical bride, big long island wedding, big bridal party whole 9 years but not from the typical situation.
My fiancé and I are both 25.well i will be next month. I have a 5 1/2 year old from a previous relationship. (Not marriage) and we have been living together for the past 2 years as well. We are not the typical soon to be Mr. and Mrs. we have a lot of 'married life challenges' we raise a child both work full time, planning a huge wedding and to top it off we are currently still living with my parents until we are married. (Could never afford to live on LI and pay for a wedding at the same time, for those of you who can count your blessings) Any how with this bit of background info I have to say my stress level of both my FH and I is through the roof and I feel like at times we are an old married couple. Were doing things backwards and it is a little dishearten sometimes to not always be in that 'im so in love with you stage' of course we are in love or we wouldn’t be getting married but I am just wondering if anyone else has a similar situation or has up's and downs with their FH. I think when all is done and said and we are 100% on our own and things settle down a bit things will be a bit brighter but until then I am stressed!!! Hi everyone. planning a wedding sure is stressful, and there are many like you who feel this way. I myself am not in a similar situation, but I can imagine the way that you are feeling. Welcome to the site, and you can always vent here, we can also be a support system in rough times. You'll get through this and as always, the grass will become greener. Take this as just a bump in the road that you need to get over and once you do, you will see that things will get a whole lot better. Im not good on advice or pick me ups, but i hope this helps.

Your wedding, and your wedding planning, do NOT have to be or catch up with or follow the style, pace or budget of ANY OTHER BRIDE. Your wedding is about you, not about being an LI Bride.

For me, an LI Bride should be a happy bride, who gets the support she needs, the opinions she asks for, and the 'reality checks' we ALL need once in a while . . . . .

Your situation is unique, but not one that can't lay the foundation for an amazing and beautiful day. You are probably going into this with a better idea of what a real marriage is like than many of us who haven't faced the type of situation or length of relationship you're in.

So, make the wedding yours, in every way, and DON'T STRESS that you're not picking out your tiara 15 months in advance. You have a child. You know the FH and you are in it for the long haul, whether you're married in a field or a palace . . . . . Do what you want when you want, and as I always say, just pick out a place that fits, then a ceremony place (or vice versa) and take it as it comes from there . . . .

And by the way, you are a more 'typical' bride than you might think!! As much as I love our girls, let's face it, in the big picture, LI Brides are not 'typical'.

I think a lot of girls are in your situation, maybe not with all the specifics but we all have our own 'struggles'. With the economy these days everyone is struggling financially, and that of course puts a damper on the 'happy wedding planning'... add a kid (or rent, or gas prices or grocery bills for that matter!) to the mix and we're all in the same boat as far as money being emotionally draining, which in turn effects our relationship with our FHs. You will find a way, and you will get through it, thats what marriage is all about. I thank my lucky stars every nite that we are in the position to afford a wedding..it may be by the skin of our teeth and it's going to take all of our pennies lolz but we're still getting to have an amazing day!

I am not a 'typical' bride either. You're definitely not alone.

There are a lot of people on this site and across the island in your 'situation'. It is easy to get wrapped up in what other people say and do,.. but know that the wedding you are planning is about the 2 of you and your child. Doesnt matter that you are already a mom or been with FH for a while. Everyone has their own reasons for coming to the alter.. and love is the best one.

Re: dishartend

Welcome!!!

To be honest... I don't know if there is a 'typical 'bride these days. A lot of us are struggling financially. Things are different than they use to be, from bringing up children, second and sometimes third marriages, brides and Fh's working mutiple jobs just to get by, parents not paying or even helping. It's not all peachy and roses anymore... its tough. But I think of it this way.... if we can make it through this then that says a lot about us making it in the long run.

The one thing that you must not forget is take some time even if its just a couple hours a week to have some quality time with FH. Don't become so busy that you don't make time to do that. Every day is a blessing.... so appreciate each and every one.... even the tough ones, because they make us and our relationship stronger. Also keep in mind there there are many out there that do not even have a fraction of what we do. You have a beautiful child to love and an FH that loves you... and that's whats most important...

Good luck.... I hope things get better for you soon.
