Display Bridal Shower

Original post by lela9282008

What do you girls think about a display only bridal shower, where the guests do not wrap the gifts or only wrap in clear paper, so bride does not have to unwrap all the gifts and waste time?

this is iffy because alot of guests want to actually see you opening your gift and see your reaction to what they bought you. Its kind of like if you bought a gift for somebody, and you never got to see them actually look at it, and didn't get to see their reaction. I think it just wouldn't be the same, people like to go out of their way to buy you something and to see that you actually like the gift, it just makes them feel better. I know when i've gone to bridal and baby showers and i hear the person say 'OMG i love this, or this is so useful or helpful' i feel better about giving them something they're excited about

Personally I love the idea, but I probably wouldn't do it just because I know the guests want to see you unwrap their gift & hold it up for everyone to see it.

I was going to do this but decided against it for 2 reasons.

1. There are many people who actually want to see you open their gift and show it to everyone (normally, the older guests)

2. I sat through many many bridal showers and now it is reciprocation time. People can sit there for an hour while I open my gifts, I did it for them

another great point hahahah very true. PLUS the whole point of the shower is to shower the bride with gifts, so that should be a big focus

Either way it doesn't make a difference to me. I'm probably going the more traditional route. But just one thing to think about, most places give complimentary wrapping for gift registries, that doesn't include the clear celophane wrap. Why have someone incur an unnecessary cost after they just bought you a gift . . . .even if it's just a few dollars. IMO i think it's a little inconsiderate. If I were to do this I think it's better to request no wrapping at all.

We are doing a lineup

I know it is weird but we are having 2 bridesmaids unwrapping gifts then they come to me after i read the card then to another 2 brides maids who put them on a display table as my moh writes down what it is on the back of the cards.

I wouldn't like it!!! I love to open things and like jteach said I've been to enough showers. I also think that family members will be weirded out/disappointed with the display gift thing.

Re: Display Bridal Shower

I was a guest at a display shower a few months ago. Didn't like it at all. It didn't feel like a shower - it was just 50 women having lunch at a restaurant together. There was no wedding talk, no games, and the gift that I got for my cousin - which was the most expensive thing on her registry and I'm sure she never thought she was going to get it - sat on a table with 3 others on top of it the whole time - very anticlimactic. I drove 4 hours to get there, and was annoyed the whole way home that I wasted all that time to have lunch with people I barely knew, sit there and chat for 2 hours, and leave.

Wow, I sound like an ungrateful jerk! Sorry. I mean, the food was nice and it was kind of them to feed me. It just didn't feel like a shower, and since I'm in 'wedding mode' i was disappointed.

I love the idea but my old fashioned mom didnt. With 100 guests it too me alomost 2 hours to open the presents. But I had my bridal party rip open the wrapping paper and then I just opened the boxes and so on.

If I received the invitation and said clear paper or nothing I would be thrilled!

Re: Display Bridal Shower

I think it's somewhat of a fun idea....BUT....after speaking to my mom and FMIL they both told me that many of the older guests would be extremely extremely offended. They said that it's the reason of a shower to bring presents and if you don't open them then you are ruining it. I personally think that makes a lot of sense. Your guests took time to get and give you a present so I think the courtesy of opening them is importnat.
