Hey girls....I noticed many of you have made your own card boxes and Id like to try it. Where do I start? Did you use actual boxes as a base, paper or fabric to cover, hot glue?...what do I need?? Haha. If anyone would like to post a pic or two so I can see, I'd appreciate any help I can get! My colors are black, ivory, and olive green. TIA!!

Re: DIY Card Box Question
I bought my boxes from AC Moore, bought fabric from Jackson Heights(Queens), used a glue gun, and craft glue to stick the fabric on the boxes.

Re: DIY Card Box Question
I saved boxes for awhile from Christmas and random things I bought over the internet. Boxes- free
I went to Joann's and bought fabric when it was on sale and paid $3.99 a yard and bought 1 1/2 yards I believe and this was way too much. We ended up buying the end of the spool.
I then had a glue gun and started gluing the fabric to the boxes. I bought ribbon and sparkly ribbon with wire in it so it was easier to work with. I cannot remember how much the ribbon was, but they had to be around $3.00 per roll.
I bought some swarovski crystals on sale for like $2.99 for 40 crystals and a buckle for $3.99 at Michaels.
I also stalked DIY boxes on here and FTMB and got my inspiration.
I have some pics in my album.

Re: DIY Card Box Question
i have a whole album of card boxes i've made.... i wrote out a step by step on the DIY board i'll find it and post the link
I just saved some boxes from the bridal shower. The bottom box is actually the big bed bath and beyond box, ontop of it is a timberland shoe box, on top of that is the box for my kitchen aid mixer and the very top one is a random box Hubs had around. I bought the blue paper wrapping paper from party city and the satin brown fabric from Joann's on sale as well as different sized ribbon. The hardest part was wrapping everything. Also, I bought fabric tac to glue the fabric down. One tip is that you don't have to cover the bottom of the boxes. This could be a good and bad thing.. It's good cuz you use less fabric but bad b/c it makes it harder to wrap the box. So if you don't care how much fabric you're using then just wrap it like you would normally wrap a present.

Re: DIY Card Box Question
My MOH was in town two weeks ago and we went to Michael's with all intentions of getting supplies for a DIY card box when I saw this lovely satin-fabric covered, hinged card box for about $30 (with a 40% off coupon they always have, it was way less). We bought some ribbon in my colors and decorated the box with a gorgeous bow my MOH made. And that was it! I had a card box without all the trouble of wrapping other boxes and trying to make it perfect (I'm a bit of a perfectionist.)
Here is a pic (I also put it in my album but it's still uploading so I can't link to it):

Re: DIY Card Box Question
I used the free boxes at the post office and then bought the tiny ones at Michaels (they were like a 1) and I bought the fabric on like W39 btw 8 and 9 (the fashion disctrict) really cheap per yard and all the pretty fabric trim at MJ Trim in the city... I used a hot glue gun to do it all

Re: DIY Card Box Question
Mine was actually a real mailbox.. I had all the guests sign it with a sharpie.. everyone thought it was so cute.. so it killed 2 birds with one stone, a card box & signature 'board'
not a great pic (the rhinestones sparkle like crazy in person) first, My fh made the tiered boxes out of foam board. then I just started wrapping the boxes with fabric (i used spray glue and sewing pins) lastly, i started embellishing the tiers-you cant really see in the pic but I have two different color fabric ribbons, rhinestone broaches in the center and trimmed the hanging ribbon with rhinestones I made a big bow as the cake topper, but i still have to upload my new pics. FYI-my theme is glitz and glamour, you may not want to do as much embellishing. good luck
That IS adorable!! I never would have thought of that :o)
