I want a card box for my E-Party that I will throw on the gift table. Our party will have touches of Tiffany Blue and I have searched for card boxes but they are expensive. I can't see myself spending that much on this. So, I am going to to make one. I can't find good instructions anywhere. Does anyone have any instructions on how to make a basic card box?????? ANY info will be appreciated.
UPDATE I went looking for hat boxes. They are so freaking expensive. If I pay like 30 for them and get the materials, It will end up costing the same as a lot of the card boxes out there. I went on Oriental Trading and saw a box there for $3!!!!!!!! It's a basic 12 x 12 box. A little cheesy but does any give a sh*t what a card box at an E-Party looks like???? What do you think?

its pretty simple, u just need to take boxes, u can do 1 box, or tiered & do different sizes, wrap them in fabric, or a nice wrapping paper, add trim, bows, etc. glue the boxes 2gether, & cut a hole in the top.

It sounds easy bit my concern is cutting the hole. I am afraid it won't come out neat. Is there any trick to doing this?

Measure out how large you want the hole to be and then mark it with pencil. Use an exacto knife to cut. You could always do a few to practice.

I have a box cutter I am going to use. I think I will have to practice. I always mess up the first try.

I just finished getting my supplies for the one I'm going to make (although I still need a middle box). I suggest going to Kate's Paperie to get some paper. They have a lot of nice stuff and some wrapping paper (on a roll) as well as stuff on the wall that is very close to the Tiffany blue.

Thanks- I have been to Kates. If I get time to go into the city, I will def go there!
I made a greatone but the key is to get that thin yellow foam from craft stores and spray glue the fabric on to that before you attach it to the box itself

I have NO idea what you're talking about! I am the un-craftiest person in the world. Well, I wouldn't say that- I can be crafty- it's just been a while. So, yellow foam. What is that?

i 'painted' glue ( it's called sobo ) then put the fabric right over it just make sure you smooth the fabric as you go and do a small section at a time

as far as cutting the hole i tried an exacto knife and it just couldn't handle it so i made an outline with pencil and took an older kitchen knife and just kinda sawed through it.
the rougher edgeds i went back over with a scissor around the actual slot for the cards to go in.... The other holes inside no one will see SO it's OK if they aren't perfect as long as they are pretty much the same size .

I'm responding to your update. I agree... people will say 'that's nice' and move on. They will not talk about your card box for weeks to come. I'd say Oriental Trading is the way to go!

you dont need hat boxes, just use boxes around your house, a shoe box, or a brown shipping box that you received something in. Remember no one is seeing what type of boxes you use because they will be covered. with all the wedding stuff that i order i get tons of boxes in different shapes and sizes.

I bought this really pretty fabric that color from Joann's fabric. Idk if I am even going to use it now but you can get some cheap stuff from there. We didnt have a card box we had a basket under my parents table that we tossed them in.

I think I am just getting my three dollar card box. If I don't like it, I can always wrap it and make it purdy!
