ok so for my winter wedding next december i was thinking of going to michaels, or the christmas tree shop THIS YEAR to buy some vases, ornaments, and birch tree branches to do my own centerpieces.....
my question is - when do i need to deliver them to the RH? Do i put them together myself before hand or deliver everything separate???
how can i make sure they do not get damaged and what is the best way to do this??? Obviously the florist wont be arranging them the day of - how does it work?
HELP???

Re: DIY centerpieces....
I would definitely do everything before hand and deliver them the night before. Ask your RH if they'll hold onto the items for you!

Re: DIY centerpieces....
DId you hire a florist for anything? if you did than they can set up for you. If not you need to bring everything to the RH acouple days before and sit them down and specifically (specifically) SPECIFICALLY explain to them what you need for set up. (did I mention be specific). If not you should see what time is the earliest you can get it. If you are the first wedding of the day see if you can get in there the night before to set up. If not see if you can get a friend to help oversee the RH setup before the wedding. The LAST thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is setting up your reception

I am DIYing centerpieces. I'm having birch branches in 10' tall square glass vases in the center of the oblong tables and two 5' cube glass vases on each side filled with silver and blue ornaments. I think buying the birch branches this year is a great idea. I also bought about 600 ornaments from target for like $30 and have been storing them in my guest bedroom for the past 10 months! The problem that I only just recently encountered is that vases are FRIGGEN EXPENSIVE! Even with coupons and multiple trips, it was going to be a huge expense. What I decided to do was talk to my florist and ask her to purchase them for me and I would purchase them from her at cost. She is a doll and accepted this. It doesn't cost her anything, but she's also not making a profit. I love my florist though -- she's amazing. So I'm picking up 60 (total) vases in 2 weeks, going to put together CPs myself and drop them off at the hall (with explicit directions on how to set them up) a few days before the wedding. I can let you know how it goes if you want My wedding is in 2 months.
ETA -- I was quoted $2500 to do mostly all of my centerpieces (I would have to provide ornaments and set those up) and it wound up costing me a total of $700, so I saved a buttload of money
