Anyone planning on making their own favors? I'm in a quandry here, I would love to make my own truffles as favors for my guests but I'm worried that I may run out of time the week before the wedding.
Yes, I could order them but just wouldn't be the same. What are all of you planning for your favors?

Re: DIY favors
I made my own favors. I handpainted wine glasses and put Hershey's Kisses and Hugs in them. They were a big hit. My suggestion to you is to give yourself extra time to get it done. I started mine a few weeks before the wedding (unfortunately I'm a procrastinator), but I happened to get sick a week before my day. That put me way behind and I ended up still working on them the day before my wedding. You will be busy enough then and you don't want that extra work added on at the last minute. It is fun to create your own favor, though, and don't be afraid to get some help from family, friends or bridal party...that can make it alot of fun! Good luck and enjoy!

Re: DIY favors
Thanks! You're right, I'll just have to make sure that everything else is complete the week before. Atleast everything that I can control!!
Better start making my placecards now!

Re: DIY favors
Truffles sound like a great idea! How long will they remain fresh? I've never known anyone who made them (wish I did, though, yum!) I guess something like that has to be done very close to the date? People will go crazy over them I would think!

Re: DIY favors
They are quite easy to make and you can personalize them with different flavors - for example add mint leaves or ginger, etc. All you really need is a double boiler, mellonballer (some people use their hands), small food processor to break up the chocolate and a candy thermometer.
They last up to a week but it's best to make them no more than two days before. You can not freeze them or they will crack. I found that Scharffenberger Chocolates from CA has one of the best recipes and chocolates, but to each her own. I was thinking of maybe making them icecream scooper size and giving out two instead of four. Hmmm, what do you think?

Re: DIY favors
Me and my FH are thinking the same thing.... Only because I want it to be from the heart. But then again i am a control freak.. But i wanted to do something with either shot glasses or something with sand dealing with the colors of the wedding... my only thing is where to get the ribbon done at?
