DIY invites

question -- how much will i really be saving by doing my own invites? I'm looking into a 1 page setup with a ribbon. then the rsvp/directions, etc and an outer envelope. I havent looked at prices for getting invites done yet.

Probably about 50% I made my own pocketfolds I saved alot and plus I was able to customize it the way I wanted to without having to pay the extra funds places would have charged me.

For this kind of invite, you can save TONS. Much more than 50%, you're basically talking about the kind of set you get in Michaels for $50. Once you buy envelopes and crap from an invitation company, it looks more like $300 for bottom-shelf plain white invites.

Since you don't need a complicated invite, what about seal-n-sends?

i'm making a layered invitation with a belly band, my own response card, and envelopes all work out to about $150 for paper material. spend another $30 on a paper cutter ... maybe $200 for everything i'll need. cheaper yes, but very time consuming.

Costco.com has invites that are less expensive. I wanted to print them myself but thought the raised print looks nicer. We are buying flat cards off there with everything printed (cards and envelopes) and adding a second layer and belly band. You could do the same with ribbon.

I saved well over $200 by doing my own pocketfolds.

Re: DIY invites

i saved a couple hundred dollars by making them myself. We are design snobs and to find a company that would do the layout we wanted was $$ and with the pocketfolds etc etc etc, it added up.

If you and the FH like working on projects, its the best thing you can do.

Well I'm not sure how much I'll save in total...but just this week I finally ordered the paper to make the actual pocketfold...I paid $46 for 7x20inch cardstock from Anchor Paper Express (I'm making 7x7 pocketfolds. I bought a paper cutter and scorer from an art store for about $20. So so far I've spent about $66. I'll know the real answer when I buy the glue dots, the rest of the cardstock (for the actual invite and the inserts), ribbon for the belly band.

I'm also thinking about getting rhinestone buckles for the ribbon, but it really depends on how good a deal I find. If it ends up being a couple hundred for the 150 or buckles that I need, then I'll forget it and just tie a bow or seal it with a sticker. I'm hoping to get what I need for about $100 or less for the buckle.

I'm thinking my pocketfold invites in total will cost around $200-250. Which is MUCH cheaper than the $1500 and 2000 that I was quoted, plus they are made exactly how I want them!
