DIY invites???

DIY invites???

Ok for those that have done them themselves......

Is it really cheaper?

If I decide to do that.. What type of glue do i use for the ribbon and cardstock.. i don't like when the glue shows through the ribbon.

Lastly... Did you go and buy a good paper cutter? Or did you use a exacto knife?

TIA

i did my own invites for me it was cheaper but i bought a kit at party city for 24.99 and i used the small sticky squares for the ribbon they adhere better and are less messy. if you need any help with alignment or printing let me know!

I did my own and it was cheaper for me because I added a mickey and minnie pic that we both liked and nobody else would add it for us so we had to go thru disney which was

I used an exacto knife and I used Aunite Annie's taffy glue (i think its called - its the one in the gold bottle and its 2 dollars at michaels)

I bought a kit from Michaels and added a few things myself like rhinestones and ribbons. I used a glue gun that I already had which held up good.

Between the ink and supplies, I spent between $250-$300 for pocketfolds, including postage. It wasnt worth the aggrivation for me honestly, but then again its probably because my printer and I were not always on speaking terms, we fought alot through the process.

LMAO Thats the part I'm dreading is the printing, not so much the actual creation of the invites. I'm worried about how much the ink is going to run

I made 120 invites and printed the invite, response card, reception card, accomodation cards with directions, response envelope address and addresses for all the guests, and I went through 3 or 4 cartridges...also factor in the mistake ones I did, which was ALOT!! (hence the non-speaking part of the process)

Well I dont know which printer you have, but I have a laserjet one (HP) and I didnt have to replace the cartriadge once for all the invites (100) plus, the 3 inserts for them

i want a laser jet printer!!!!!!!

lolol Can I give a place all my designs on a disk and have them print it out on my paper for me???

I really am a bit concerned about the printing.

Re: DIY invites???

I made pocketfolds for 150 invites with 4 inserts. I definately saved $$$ on them. I was worried about the printing and planned on saving it on disk and bringing into kinkos - but I was happily surprised when i tested my printer and it all worked out fine. To my surprise I even did the envelopes. I was ready to send them out to have them done.
I went through 2 cartridges - $25 for the twin pack.
I got the pocketfolds, envelopes and paper from cards and pockets.com . I used double stick tape 'coz i don't like glue. Added some self stick bling and waahla - invites!
I used a paper cutter from staples for the inserts.
Don't get me wrong, you need patience with it and do alot of testing before printing.

Re: DIY invites???

For me it was cheaper.. printing costs so much and while it can come out really nice, it just wasn't worth it to spend so much on things that people would throw out. For glue, use scrapbooking tape runners. They're just like using a white out pen but it's tape and it's not inky. It's definitely dry and won't seep through the ribbon. I have a paper trimmer from scrapbooking. Exacto I find is a little harder if you haven't used it much before. I have both the cricuit paper trimmer and fiskars. Either one is good.

I have an inkjet. I tried using the laserjet and it was smearing the ink on my envelopes so i used the inkjet for everything. I have a good printer, but I think the printer was just not cut out to handle that much work. It started eating envelopes towards the end. I had to give it breaks at times bc it wasnt grabbing the paper...oh I am just getting more angry at that freakin printer again!!!

Try going to Minuteman Press if you want someone else to print it and also bring the paper. I talked to them about it and they told me they would have to see the type of paper before they could give me a definite yes as to whether or not they can do the job.

I did my own and they were definitly cheaper. I bought the brides kits from Michaels...with the coupons they have they were only 25.00 for a box of 40. They include all invites, stuff to make them, envelopes, rsvp cards, and all of those envelopes too. And they look amazing, and have all different designs and colors...definitly check them out. I have pics of mine in my folder :o)

Re: DIY invites???

I did my own pocketfold invites, which were MUCH cheaper than ordering what I wanted from a company, but they were still MUCH more expensive than I needed to make them just because I used pocketfolds. The pocketfolders alone were like $1 each. I also used embellishments such as fancy paper, satin ribbon, rhinestones, and I purchased a paper cutter, embossing heat tool, stamps, embossing powder, and of course, the paper to print and mat the invites on. So, there are inexpensive DIY projects and there are expensive DIY - just depends on what you want to do

CAREFUL with MINUTEMAN! I had my invites printed there using MY paper and MY design - they charged me 60 dollars! 20 bucks just to transfer the design into a program on their computer that was compatible with their printers (Apparently, MS WORD is old-fashioned! LOL) and they did a TEST sheet with my paper, but with a random design. It came out fine, so I approved it. Then, when I got my invites, I almost cried. The lettering looked all blurry and you could see shadowy parts in the letters but by then I didn't have any more paper and had to get started on assembling the invites. So, lesson learned, have them print your EXACT invite on your EXACT paper before handing over any money! HTH!

I bought a kit from AC Moore and had my JRBM's mom print them out for me. Nothing fancy.

i didnt use glue, which i suggest not to. I used permanent double sided tape and this is actually what invite companies also use. Glue dots work great too
