I used to work for a makeup counter at Macy's when I was in school, so I know how to put makeup on myself for photos pretty well, including putting on false lashes. I also know which products I need to put on my skin to keep my makeup from sliding off.
I knew that I would probably want a makeup artist for my wedding, so I went to a few makeup trials. As soon as I got home and my fiancee saw me, he said that the makeup didn't look any better than the makeup that I've done on myself for other events.
I've taken pictures of myself both after the trials and after I've done my own makeup, and I agree that it doesn't look very different.
Should I still book a makeup artist for my wedding or should I DIY?

Re: DIY Makeup or Makeup Artist?
I don't have any professional experience with makeup, but I am very good at doing makeup, and was very picky with going to trials knowing that I could do a great job myself.
I knew that I wanted a makeup artist regardless since I want to be pampered and as stress-free as possible on the day of the wedding, and I wanted to give my BMs the opportunity to have their makeup done as well. I also want airbrush so I knew I couldn't do that myself.
HTH!

That defintely does help. I'd want the bridesmaids to get their makeup professionally done, as none of them really wear makeup.
Maybe it's that I haven't found the right makeup artist yet.

it's completely up to you but if you know what you are looking for and you know you can do it, then I say save yourself the money and do it yourself. Maybe go to a few more trials with people and see if someone 'gets it' before you make your decision. I think the day of the wedding it would be more relaxing for you if you didn't have to do it yourself.

Re: DIY Makeup or Makeup Artist?
I am going through the same thing Im up to makeup trial # 4 and every time I go I fell like i could of just done it myself and saved the money. Im not a professional but the reason why I wanted a maekup artist is because I wanted something to look better/different from what I normally do and Im just not getting that. My other reasoning is because Im always the one that does everyone makeup when we go out so I think My bridal party will harass me on the day of to do their makeup as they do every time were going somewhere..They prob wont but I want to be able to tell them If im not doing my own makeup im not doing anyone elses makeup lol

It's funny that's exactly how I was. I always do my own and my friend who works for MAC taught me how to do my makeup years ago and I always do my friends' for them. But I wanted professional for the wedding so that it would stay on.. that's when I found Christy from Christy Ann Cosmetics.I can't say enough about her..besides being a sweetheart her work is amazing..I don't let ANYONE do my makeup ever..and I thought it was going to be hard for me to find someone that I loved to do my makeup for my wedding. When I saw what she did for a gf of mine from college's wedding..I knew she was the one! I went for a trial for my E-Pics and booked on the spot!
thats exactly what FH has told me after trials, sometimes he said i did a better job than they did...so ye I know how you feel. i booked an artist anyway bec i thought it would be nice to not have to deal with that. plus i plan on bringing all my makeup with me so i can fix it up if the artist doesnt do a good job.
