DIY programs

Just wondering if the DIYers out there think that its worth making my own programs or should I be getting them made...did you save enough money that it was worth doing them yourself or did you do it more for the fun of it? also if anyone can recommed a reasonable place that does programs that would be great...just trying to see what would be best for me to do....TIA

Re: DIY programs

I am doing my own programs, for many different reasons. I am a natural DIYer in my whole life. I like that I can change things on a whim and I am too cheap to pay for them! For me it is cheaper to do it myself!

I did them myself. They came out awesome! It took a lot of time though. I didn't do it to save money, I did it because i enjoyed working on it and it took my mind awaqy from the stresses of the wedding. It is nice to do it yourself because you know it has that personal touch and you know you did it.

I just bought some regular paper and ribbon. I only did one (wedding is still a year away never know if I have to make changes) but I think it came out well. There are pictures in my album.

I suggest pricing it out. If you want a super-complicated program, it could go either way--the customization could add on tons of fees if you went through a vendor. On the other hand, going through a vendor could save you money if you buy a lot of supplies without knowing what you want first.

Here's an example from my own experience. We wanted book-style programs with a ribbon on the spine. DH found the DIY Crane's kit, which includes cover-weight sheets for the program cover, text-weight sheets for the inside, and ribbons for 5.25' x 5.25' booklets.

But the amount of text we wanted to include on the inside meant that we had would have had to get more kits than necessary to get enough inside sheets. Even if we had been able to cut the text down, the Crane's kits would still have cost $320 ($1.60/program). For 45 minutes of use? No way.

I ended up using Paper Source materials and ribbon from Michael's. PS isn't a low-price supplier, but it's less than Crane's and they offer more variety. I think they turned out well, and for only $0.75 each.

GL!
