So, FH and I didn't want a video, but I'm starting to reconsider just to capture those special moments. But alas, we're strapped for cash. I was thinking about handing out a few of those disposable video camera ($30) during the ceremony to certain guests and leaving one on each table at the reception with a specific 'shot list' kind of like the camera scavenger hunt...only video style. For example, someone at table 1 has to record the speeches. Or, maybe not on each table but you get the point.
After the wedding we'll have them edited to make one DVD. I think it'll be kinda of special and personal since it's made by our guests.
What do you think?
Of course, I'll have to test one out first to see the quality and stuff. And find out if it'll be easy to have them edited. Anyone know?
Hmmm...reading reviews and it seems indoor lighting can look grainy.

Re: DIY video?
well if you do the cameras on tables and scavenger hunt...i gotta be honest, i don't think you'll have that much to look at. i've heard so many ppl talk about how table cameras were a waste cause either ppl didn't use them or took pics of inappropriate things...or were too drunk to hold the camera! i can't imagine how it would be to give video cameras like that.
if you can't afford a videographer, maybe find a friend who has a decent video camera and see if they can be your videographer for the day. cause your'e right about the lighting being grainy indoors, especially for those disposable video cameras! at least if you just have one person with a home video camera, they can try and focus on you with the little light on the camera!

I did a video for friends at two different weddings. I had alot of fun filming & they totally appreciated the video. I remember watching the MOH speech & crying while I was looking at the screen lol But I passed it off to a few people throughout the night & some shots are hilarious. Even though it was amateur it was better than not having one at all.

Re: DIY video?
That's what we're doing. We actually got a pretty good quality digital camera for the shower, and we'll ask someone we trust to film it. I think you might be better doing something like that than having disposables where the quality will be less and you might not get the shots you want.. Hope that helps!

Re: DIY video?
There are also tons of people on Craigs list who do it for much lower prices. my guess is the quality is similar to a DIY, but then you dont need to burden your guests and you dont have to worry that people wont capture what you want.

Re: DIY video?
My sister had my uncle tape the ceremony and such, and I think this is your best option, to have trusted family member or friend do it, someone who wont mind.
In her case, she never got it. How crappy is it that apparently ppl were talking **** about the wedding or something or making jokes or it caught some sort of comment, so my uncle tried to edit it out and then eventually just didnt give her the tape. How sad. But, that was a random story, and Im sure youll have a better experience. Im still considering MAYBE doing this too.

Oh wow...that's horrible. I can't believe people. How rude. It just reminded me of my uncle and aunt's wedding when I was little. My uncle (now a recovered alcoholic, who's a much better person) was drunk at the altar--yes, drunk. My aunt was cursing at him and rightfully so, furious. But you can hear her on the video, taken by a friend. (I know, crazy, right?) I guess that's where professional editing comes in handy.

Re: DIY video?
My cousin didn't have a videographer and recruited my brother...granted a new media major at suny purchase...to be the videogrpaher during the reception...
Lemme be honest about something....my cousin put disposable cameras at the table at her wedding and my cousin and i who were really drunk...tooke some probably distrubing pics! MJ is right when she says what would happen with a video camera? I think her idea of asking someone to do it for the day is great, they would feel special and maybe you could make mention of them in the programs
