DIY wedding question - stress!

DIY wedding question - stress!

I am getting married at the Queens Farm, so everything is being brought in and I am my own coordinator, which is FINE. I want to do everything myself and I'm loving it. The only problem is, my wedding isn't until November 2011, and the one thing that actually keeps me up at night ALREADY, is worrying about the 'day-of' set-up!

The caterer I found is amazing and will do all of my centerpiece set-ups if I send him photos and/or diagrams of how I want them to look, etc...but I can't help but worry, and worry...and worry.

I'm especially concerned about flowers, because I am doing everything myself, nothing elaborate - very whimsical...flowers in mason jars, and non-matchy match. But WHEN do I do it? Where do the fresh flowers go? How are they not going to die/wilt?

Can you tell I'm freaking out? Has anyone taken this approach or known another bride in the past who did this? I just know that if I don't figure it out, I'm going to be over at the farm at 8am on my wedding day and that is the last thing I want to happen.

Any advice is appreciated. TIA!

I don't have any experience with the DIY stuff, but I can tell you that you're already miles ahead of so many girls who aren't even engaged yet and will still get married earlier in 2011 than you are. So relax and don't keep yourself up at night already, no bueno!
And I LOVE your non matchy DIY concept withthe mason jars and everything. I've seen photos and it comes out just lovely!

But here are some questions I would ask myself just to try and organize the madness in my head:

Where are the flowers coming from? Is it possible that whomever is providing them can deliver them diectly to the site morning of and the caterer can arrange them?

If this isn't possible, maybe they can deliver them to you day of and you can appoint a friend to take them to the site for the caterer?

Can whomever is providing the flowers hold on to them and you can have a friend pick them up and take them to the site?

You have so much time to figure this stuff out. I'm not saying don't think about it, but that's different from don't worry about it. So don't worry!

Re: DIY wedding question - stress!

Thanks so much for the reply. I think part of my stress is that I have zero, and I mean zero idea of where the flowers will be coming from.

Flowers are something I don't want to spend a fortune, or even a fraction of a fortune on so it's stuck in my head that I'm doing most of it on my own.

I guess I should start there before losing sleep, huh. I will probably take the advice regarding having one of my bridesmaids go to the site and just make sure everything looks proper before guests arrive.

Thanks again :)

Still would love to hear from any DIY brides for additional experiences and what to avoid. Even if it means spending a little extra $ to prevent disaster and mega-stress.

I was at a shower yesterday and the MOH did the centerpieces herself the day before (mainly roses) and she stored them all in her fridge. for your wedding it might be a bit much, but just an idea

I'm amazed by how much you've done in 3 weeks!

Like I said in my introduction post...I think I definitely have an advantage (or not? at least with resources), being that I am a wedding photographer and I'm constantly immersing myself in wedding research.

I can't tell where the work line ends and planning begins anymore, because when I stumble upon something I love while I'm working, I either mentally or Safari bookmark it!

The downside to this is that I'm forever and ever second guessing my selections, like any bride I suppose, but I'm forced to continue looking instead of 'closing the menu' and being happy with my choice. It doesn't help that I'm naturally utterly indecisive.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a BLAST. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining!

If you're DIY the flowers to save money and you haven't secured a deal on the flowers yet (Which I assumed you had for some reason) maybe it won't even cost that much more in labor to have the cp's made and delivered? If the price is right, it might be worth the extra $$ depending on how much extra, for the piece of mind, know what I mean?
