dizziness

dizziness

I have a question for you ladies, lately I've been feeling really dizzy to the point where if I don't sit down I feel like I'm going to fall down. My vision becomes blurred and my hearing gets worse.

Has this happened to any of you? I'm going to see my doctor on Wednesday, so I'm definitely going to bring it up, but I figured I would see if anyone else is experiencing this.
(right now I'm 26 weeks)

Re: dizziness

I do not have first hand experience with GD, so please so not get alarmed. It sounds like this may be a sugar issue. It does not necessarily mean you have GD. I had low blood sugar before getting pg, and it was under control. I guess when I had a few major weight gains during pg my body needed a few days to adjust. I went through the symptoms you did and tested my blood sugar with a kit I have. I made sure I had some sugar if it was low. Hope this stops happening and you feel better soon.

Re: dizziness

it lists these symptoms in What to Expect....right around where we are at week-wise too. I think it's fairly normal. You are probably getting your GD screening soon - mine is on Thursday - but I am sure your doctor can put your mind at ease. Let me know though- I'd be curious....

Re: dizziness

I'm actually being tested on Wednesday, so that's good. This is just the first time I've experienced this at work and it sort of took me by surprise, because when I'm at home I just lay down... and I can't very well do that. I'm thinking that I should probably go home since I'm not feeling too well and my work day doesn't end until 7pm...

I didn't call her... but I figured that since I'm going to see her on Wednesday I should be okay. Should I call her?

I think the dizziness is normal, but I' would call anyway.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Re: dizziness

Could be vertigo. I had it for 2 months straight 2 years ago, and I have had recurrences on and off since then. I am not pregnant, but it sucks just the same.

Hope it all works out! Good luck.

If it turns out to be vertigo, you can fm me to talk about it if you like!

You could also be dehydrated. Are you drinking enough water??

Re: dizziness

I'm with Kris-- It sounds like vertigo. I have it too (and I'm not preggo either). It can affect your vision and can be associated with moving your head in different directions, or changing from standing to sitting positions (among other things).

If you need more info let us know-- and good luck at the doctors!

Re: dizziness

I did call the doctor and her advise was:
If I thought my symptoms were acute to go to the hospital... if not, wait until the morning and see the doctor.

I opted to do neither since I have my scheduled appointment tomorrow.

Re: dizziness

There could be any number of reasons why this is happening to you...you could be dehydrated, you could have high blood pressure, or it could be your blood sugar (GD). I remember having similar symptoms once during my pregnancy and it developed into a migraine headache

Re: dizziness

My doctor thinks it was because I was standing in one place for too long and the blood wasn't flowing. She suggested getting those thick nylons that ER nurses wear.

I'll find out next week if it's GD, and I also don't have high blood pressure. But the doctor said that according to my symptoms it's probably the lack of blood flow due to standing in one place.
