Did anyone use a DJ that is not a traditional wedding DJ? We are considering using the DJ that spins at a club we go to regularly. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and how it turned out? Thanks!

Good Idea, however is he/she comfortable doing weddings?? have they ever done one??
If so, then I would say sure why not!!!
Can I ask who the DJ your thinking of is??

Re: DJ
I know a DJ personally. I can't use him, because he is an ex-boyfriend and it would be a little awkward for everyone involved, but he is one of the best DJ's I know. And he is a regular in some of the local bars and clubs. He worked some place called FLO for NYE. Check out his site. Tell him Heidi sent you.
ETA: He does have some wedding experience, too, so it's not like yours would be his first. But club-style is more his thing and it sounds like that is what you are looking for.

Re: DJ
Be careful - there are a lot of things a Wedding DJ does that a regular DJ doesn't do, like announcements and stuff like that. My friends had a regular DJ and he forgot to do any announcements at all!
Make sure this guy at least gets a book on DJing weddings.

Re: DJ
We went to a wedding, and they had their friends dj, they plaid good music, for us 'young Folk'.. a lot of techo.. but they didn't do any 'wedding stuff' they played.. I wouldn't advise it if they aren't comfortable doing weddings.. You want them to introduce you, and dedicate songs.. JMO I wouldn't do it

Re: DJ
We are definitely hiring an MC if we use this DJ. He is great, but we want someone to make the wedding flow. He is also not from this country adn not of our culture (we are Jewish, he is Muslim). The thing is we want a lot of middle eastern music and most DJ's don't play it. Although this DJ is muslim, he plays a lot of Israeli music.
Thanks for your suggestions. Please keep them coming!

Re: DJ
I say if you do that...you're gonna have a kick a@@ party...you'll have some great mixes and end up with some really great yet obscure love songs....if he's a wide range DJ. Make sure he knows all kinds of music!! And maybe he'll make your wedding into a mix CD that you'll have forever!!
