DJ

Hi ladies, I'm hunting for a DJ now and I'm not sure what I should ask for. I am thinking lights and fog,....is there anything else?

I'd be careful with the Fog (aka dry ice). Some halls don't allow it and imo people don't like it THAT much, esp if some have breathing problems. Even the best DJ's can over-do it sometimes since it's just a button they hold down.

You have options for lighting. Kenetic/led lighting changes color, intelligent lighting can be fixed to the beat of the music and be made into different shapes and designs which can be fixed onto the walls/ceilings.

Also think about plasma? Depending on ur DJ.. you don't need to have 2 from the high trusts. Some companies can fix it to their front board.

Ask if they will be playing music during the cocktail hour or if they are only charging from the moment you make your entrance.

Ask about monograms, if you would like one for your reception.

Ask how many people comes with the package, DJ and MC or is one person both the DJ and MC?

Ask about giveaways, some dj's give things away to those guests who are on the dance floor, but this does cost extra.

Ask how long they will need to set up, so you can let your RH know when to expect the dj. My dj said he needs a few hours to set up for lighting because he needs to make sure all the wires are hidden and that no one trips over them.

Get a list of all the extras and the cost...so you can compare how much each extra is at different companies- those little things add up!!

Ask to see a video of the DJ at your hall in action.

Re: DJ

aaah thuoght u were asking about specific lighting questions ok.. here's the list lol

* Are they insured. A proof of insurance needs to be provided to the hall if they are not already on file.
* One man (MC/DJ) or 2 man? Realize.. with lights, esp kenetic and intel there is usually a 3rd person for just that.
* How much for overtime (be careful with sat-sun nights. They could charge time 1/2)
* What happens if one of their speakers or amp's don't work the day of. Do they have backup?
* Individual musicians? (singers, dummer, pianist, keyboardist, etc)
* Find out exactly how many people will be on their crew (in case you plan on feeding them to budget properly get a exact # from them. If they say they can't tell that's bs. They should know about 2-3 months prior to ur event how many people will be working on it)
* If they aren't having any showcases ask to see a video clip of their MC's that are available for you to choose from. Make sure u have this MC in ur contract or else they could switch it on you. What happens if they are sick?
* Have they worked at your hall before? If not ask your BM to contact them or visa versa, just to touch base (You have no idea how surprised some DJ's are when they get to a hall and realize there isn't a nearby outlet with the necessary wattage)
* How long has that particular DJ/MC been working for their company?

thats all i can think of for now. I tried to think of things other people won't say. lol

FYI, typically DJ's arrive 1-2 hours prior to cocktail hour starting. Depending on how big the set up is and how many roadies they have.
