Hey everyone, Congratualtions on your upcoming weddings. I was hoping to get some advice from those brides who are further along in planning than I am....
I am unsure if I need a DJ and am MC or just one guy to do both. I am having a decent size reception about 175 people, and the reception goes until 1:30am. But I am not sure my family and friends need someone to motivate them. They are pretty fun on their own. I am not doing anytime of line or chicken dance. Although I do want to throw the bouquet and all. It is about $500 cheaper to have one guy do you think that will be sufficient??
Also we are having a light show so there will be another guy with the DJ overseeing and setting up that.
Thanks for your help! And best of luck with your planning and special days as well...

Re: DJ and an MC or just a DJ/MC??
Hi...Welcome to LIW... Congrats on your wedding I am having a DJ and MC for my wedding. If you have 175 guests I think you should have both but it depends on you....When I started to look for a DJ for my wedding....They told me that if you have more than 150 guests at your wedding you should have both. Remeber you are getting marry only once so have as much fun as possible and entertainment is very important at a wedding IMO

I have 300 people at my reception and my DJ was also my MC. If the DJ is good enough, you need another guy doing the talking.

i agree...we booked just the 1 man dj/mc package four our wedding which will have 175-200 guests. I have heard great things about our guy being really energetic and motivating even when hes alone. i honestly would worry if a company tells u they can't handle it alone.
i have been to weddings with the mc and they didn't do anything...imo it is a waste of money.

Thats what I was thinking as well. I am not concerned they can't handle it. I met with Tommy Tunes who I know are great! I have been to many wedding they have DJ'd. I just don't want to pay for something I really don't need.

Welcome and congrats!!! I am having a wayyy smaller wedding than you im having around 70 guests and i am having a DJ/MC package. I just felt that it was nice having the MC because she'll motivate the guests to dance and will just add more kick to the party..IMO.

IMO it's better to have both, but if it gets too pricey than I'm sure it would be fine with one...just make sure you go with a company that can handle it...

It depends on how involved you want ur mc to be.
IMO i think having a mc and dj is good.. it just adds something to the party when someone is out there on the floor doing ur grand entrances and stuff rather someone stuck behind the booth. because with the person setting up and overlooking things.. that's called a roadie and most likely won't be doing anything else other then setting up and the light show.
