What is the average price for and DJ or a Band . what about lighting how much is that?

a band in general will be more expensive than a DJ.
The DJs I looked at start around $1k and go up from there, depending on whether you want 1 person to DJ and MC or 2 separate people and the lighting varies a lot. We were offered lighting packages ranging from $150 to like $1k. And I'm sure some places were more expensive.
The band quotes I saw on here were around $5k, but I'm sure they were others that are cheaper or more expensive!

My band is $800 per band member. That is relatively cheap - I think most are $1000 or more ... because most bands are in the $7000 range, I think. From the research I did, anyhow.

We added an extra hour to our reception, so now our band is in the $7,000 range, but without that it was closer to $6,000. I checked out times square orchestra too (great band, saw them at a friend's wedding and he had seen them at other weddings too - they were booked for our date). They were somewhere b/w 5,000 and 6,000.
I think dj's are anywhere from $1000-$2000.

we did not look into bands, but we did meet with 3 different dj companies...they ranged in price from about 1300-1700...we did not really look into the lighting packages so i am not too sure about that

There are DJs that are less that $1k and can go for quite a few thousand. A lot depends on who they are and what you're getting.
