We are planning on meeting with DJ's in the upcoming weeks. I have no clue how to pick a DJ.. other things like photography are simple because you see what you like. I feel like with a DJ it's hard to tell because you don't really get to see them in action.
I have an appointment with Variety Music (met them an an expo), but I have no clue who else to meet with.
Any recommendations? Price quotes would also be helpful!

Re: DJ help
yeaaa i have the same ? as you...I think some DJs have videos on their websites of them in action or I believe I got some CDs of DJs from a showcase I went to. I haven't started looking at them yet, but I guess you'll start to figure out what you like and don't like based on those videos.
I'm planning on looking into: after hours fm entertainment li sound probably others too since i over-research everything

Re: DJ help
I met with Rich from Parties alive last week and he gave me a great deal. Anyone have any experience with them? I am thinking of booking.

Re: DJ help
meet the people in the dj company esp emcee make sure you like how they sound and speak etc. CHeck out the Light and sound system. Look at their set up and all the choices they offer. We went to see FM entertainment tonight. very nice people they even do a private showcase. WE liked them, and they are also very affordable but not sure they are the ones for us.. so we will keep shopping =)

Re: DJ help
This was tough for me, too. For this reason, I went with a house recommended DJ. I figured they are accustomed to JT and will know what works and what doesn't and they have to be pretty good to become a recommended vendor.
But before I chose them of course I read lots of reviews about them and went to meet with them to discuss logistics. JT also provides planning support free of charge from Francesca at Dazzling Affairs so when I met with her, I voiced my concerns about picking the right DJ and she helped to point out the pluses and minuses of a few I was looking at. She helped a lot!

Re: DJ help
Most companies will do showcases at some point - either at a RH showcase or their own. Some also post videos on their websites that you can check out. So I'd encourage you to go hear them in person if you can (we heard one that we loved and another that we were less than enthused about (FH & I were yawning, and FMIL actually fell asleep during their demo show)).
