Ok ladies, I need some help. DJs are next on our list to check out and I have a few in mind. I wanted to check out Bravura (spell?), LI Sound, Tommy Tunes, and After Hours. We saw one of these DJs last night and were not impressed at all. About 2 minutes into the showcase, FH turned to me and was like I feel like I would get into a fight with these guys . They were just too in your face and whatnot. So we are looking for a DJ that is a little more laid back (now we are thinking about just doing a MC/DJ instead of 2 separate people) and will listen to us. Most of our music is rock or reggae, and we don't want a lot of party or dance music (not our style). We also don't want a lot of lights, ESPECIALLY strobe lights. FH's mother is prone to seizures, and I get bad migraines with lights like that.
So, long story short, I'm looking for an affordable DJ that WILL NOT be in people's faces and who WILL listen to everything we want.
Any and all help is appreciated!
Thanks ladies!

Re: DJ help!
I know exactly what you mean because I was there last night too I had an entertaining time but FH said the same thing about the guys Must be a guy thing (though I didn't care for them either). I heard Bravura is GREAT and on their website their demos look good. I'm meeting with them in a week or two. I also met with DJ Gaza (74events.com) and although he is pricier, he is all those things you just mentioned. No lighting or anything so if you want anything basic you do need to go somewhere else for it. Although I'm meeting with others to get a feel for them, I really enjoyed meeting with DJ Gaza and he is SO laid back, and all his references gave me glowing reviews. He's also on Wedding Channel with reviews, so that's a good way to compare them all!

Re: DJ help!
We used After Hours for our wedding. Phil is amazing to work with. He does what you want, he plays the music you like. We opted to not do the basic light package either because I have a cousin that is prone to seizures as well. You can go with the 1 DJ/MC we went with a 2 person team. Just tell him exactly what you want and he will do it.
Our dance floor was crowded all night long.
HTH!

I emailed the guy you said, so I'm waiting to hear back from him. But OMG can I tell you how much my FH wanted to like hit them. He's like 'If they did this at my wedding, I'd punch them in the face!' I was like WHOA!

That's hilarious I was entertained but afterwards he told me how much he didn't like those guys. The cool thing about DJ Gaza is he'll give you a price quote immediately even before you meet. We me with him in Brooklyn and I really liked his personality and his demos he emailed me were great. But like I said, probably not the cheapest you'll find.

Check out EJ the DJ...when I met with them they seemed great! I'm probably going to end up going with a band but if I was to use a DJ i would definitely use them!!

Re: DJ help!
We went with FM Entertainment. They had options for DJ only, low energy MC, party MC and high energy MC. I said please no high energy since I went to a wedding where the MC was seriously on his back on the floor. He was the center of attention at some points. The DJ played great music, but I'm not into that high energy. I just wanted an MC that makes announcements and is low key.
Frank at FM Entertainment was great to work with. Such a nice guy too and worked with our budget. HTH!

Re: DJ help!
I highly recommend Tommy Tunes. We were looking for the same thing, a one man DJ/MC and something that was not in your face at all. We were very pleased with their customer service throughout the entire booking process and they never pressured us into paying for something we didn't want. Ask to speak to Stephen, he was the best!

They were sooooo in your face! FH was just thinking about if it was a guest at our wedding and the dj was doing that he'd be super p.o'd

Try Superior Entertainment Solutions. They were by far the best personality-wise that we met with.
