DJ Help!

So my FH and I have been looking for a DJ and been to many bridal showcases. So far we've meet with variety music and bravura (one of our venues house DJ) We loved both of them but they seemed a little expensive for what we wanted. We just met with high energy entertainment which is a small entertainment company that came recommended by my boss. He's prices were so beyond reasonable he quoted us $1500 for 5 Hours of Continuous Music Two-Man Team – one DJ and one MC, Deluxe High Energy Light Show (Intelligent Lighting) Our Name In Lights, Two 42' Plasmas for your Photo Montage & Zap Shots, Photo montage on DVD, Recorded music for cocktail hour and our ceremony and Uplighting for our reception room.
So obviously we would never be able to get that price anywhere else but it gets me nervous that he only charges that little. I'm scared we're only going to get what we paid for. So I need everyone's input or anyone's personal experience.

Thanks in advanced!!!

That definitely sounds like it's too good to be true. The lowest quote we got for dj and mc and percussionist with none of the other extras was $1600 and we didn't go with them, because we felt they weren't so professional and we would have gotten what we paid for. Make sure you check out wedding wire and yelp for reviews. We're using Barattini productions. They were the highest quote we received, but we felt it was worth it. The whole party atmosphere is in their hands, it's not where you want to skimp.

DJ Help!

I think the important thing is if you like what they do. See if they are doing an event somewhere that you can just check out and see if they are what you want.

Personally, I know what my budget is. I personally can't afford to go with some of the big names on this site or the people that some of my friends use. I am willing to go with a smaller company or freelancer, if it means I am getting the same quality of work. My DJ is going to be my co-worker, who is giving me a good rate, who has done many events before, I believe he's done our company's Holiday party in the past. My photographer has years of experience working as a freelancer for multiple photography companies on Long Island, but is starting out on his own.

Bottom line: Go with your gut. Would you go with them because your boss recommended them?

$1500 sounds way too good to be true.. I booked with Barattini also... they are deff not the cheapest quote... but after reading the million positive reviews and meeting with them and seeing how they work, there is no one else i would trust to play at my wedding. I agree with rcotter90- the DJ and MC are going to set the tone for your entire reception, its really important to hire a professional that you can trust!
