so i booked a DJ for my wedding.....great...no prob there...however...
DF and I were talking about the pro's and con's of having a DJ and the first thing we both said were that people can basically request whatever they want. There is a lot of stuff we don't want.... macarena...chicken noodle soup lmfao....etc etc
I will want the tarantella and his mom wants not 1...but 2 polkas...whatever...but we don't want 10.
Question is....is it tacky to tell the DJ not to take requests and we will tell him what WE want played?? The playlist is pretty liberal--oldies, 80's, some disco/dance stuff, billy joel (for me!) and anniversary songs of our parents....what do you think??

Re: DJ issues....
IMO: On your wedding day it is not tacky to tell any of your vendors what you want!!!! Sounds like you have a good list started already.

Re: DJ issues....
I already made it very clear to my DJ NOT to take requests. He said no prob at all..... It is your day!! If you don't want your dj to take request then tell them and they can tell your guests the bride & groom asked me not to take requests!

Re: DJ issues....
My DJ gave me a seprate sheet to fill out of songs that I don't want played. I told him I rather not have him play songs that people request and he said he would tell them he has a set list already and he can't fit it in unless they ask me first.

Re: DJ issues....
our DJ told us that he will not play anything on our no play list and we can have certain people who can do requests. He also said that if something is requested that is on our no play list he will find one of us and ask if it is OK before they play it.
Sit down and talk to you DJ and it shouldnt be a problem at all... remember you are the one paying them
You can make up a list of songs you want and don't want. As well as have no requests. Your paying him.

Re: DJ issues....
Tell the DJ your not taking requests or if you haven't already sent out invites you can create a card that people can send back with a song recommendation. If you want to use it you can add it to the playlist otherwise throw it in the trash. This way it looks like the playlist needs to be done before hand and will limit people asking to play the YMCA.

Re: DJ issues....
FH hates country so asked the DJ not to play it unless someone requests it, then he said...well don't play a lot of requested country. DJ was absolutely fine with it. I have been to wedding and requested things and the DJ has said 'the bride & groom asked that we don't play that song'. I was fine w/ it. It was thier day.

Re: DJ issues....
Just give him the do not play list and when something like that is requested, tell him to say he doesn't have it.

Re: DJ issues....
Most djs actually ask for a list of do not play songs for your day, so don't hesitate to tell the dj what songs should no be played.

Re: DJ issues....
We told our DJ no requests. If you start having people requesting songs it will start to take over your wedding music. We gave him a *very small* list of must plays and let them do their thing. There was honestly not ONE song that I didn't like. They did a GREAT job. If you get a good DJ - they know what they are doing, let them handle it.

Re: DJ issues....
Make a list of songs and or styles of music that you do not want and give it to the DJ. To make it easier for the DJ to find songs not to play do it on excel and sort it alphabetically, you can keep adding stuff when you think of new songs and resort the file. Have the DJ tell the guest sorry but that's on the no play list.
Also make a list of the songs you do want him to play

Re: DJ issues....
When my friend got married she requested that the DJ stop taking requests once she was hearing songs that she didn't like. Just make sure that the DJ handles it tactfully instead of telling the guests that the bride and groom has requested not to take request. Hope this helps.
congrats and many best wishes.

Re: DJ issues....
It's your special day. Your DJ's will listen to you. It is not tacky to let your DJ's know 'No Requests'. We will be letting our DJ's know that also.

You can absolutely tell them what you want and don't want. You can tell them not to take requests. You are paying, they work for you!

See I have heard of DJ's saying ask the bride, but truth be told I don't want to be bothered. I hired my DJ because I trust him. Of course there are a few songs I will tell him to play, and I think I wnat mostly my type of music played at the cocktail hour. And then total dance music at the reception, mostly DJ's discretion.
