So FH and I have been debating the DJ packages and quotes we've gotten so far. Many of them include lighting, video screens, photo montages, etc.
We really are just looking for a basic DJ package (no TVs and such), but for those girls who have been to weddings/events with DJ lighting, what are your thoughts? Is it necessary or elegant or does it end up looking more like a club when you're going for an elegant look to the reception? Thanks for the thoughts girls!

Re: DJ Lighting?
I think it can be done elegantly, or if not, it can look too 'clubby'. If you have an unlimited budget, I'd say go for it, but if you don't, the basic DJ package is just fine! The wedding is all about the people, music, food, fun -- you can have a great time without spending a fortune on lighting.

Re: DJ Lighting?
we took the lights for about $150 extra. what we got were understated colored lights in red/blue/green. they were not in your face at all.
but i think they also offer a more $$$ type - - intelligent lighting which may pulse to music. now that might be too much. so ask for details when you tAlk to the dj's.

Re: DJ Lighting?
I would ask them honestly.. my dj told me the the minimum light package was really just for small parties in small /restaurant / backyard type venues- that for a wedding it would be better to have none at all. We wanted a fun dance atmosphere with some dramatic moments (first dance etc) I'm a theatre person, so we got the middle of the road package/typical wedding package.

Re: DJ Lighting?
I had been debating myself about whether to go with the lighting package (because it cost more money). I usually did not take notice of lighting at most weddings I went to, so I figured it was no big deal. But one of my friends said she noticed those things, and how the lighting could add to things. It won't make or break the wedding. But she said it was just something extra and nice. I ended up just going for it. Then when I went to a wedding a little while later, I couldn't help but take notice that there was no DJ lighting, and it did sort of seem like something was missing. So I was glad I got it.
But honestly, whether people notice it or not, it really does not change the wedding at all. If you have the money, go for it. If you're looking to save, this is an area where you can cut it out then.

Re: DJ Lighting?
Our wedding is at DeSeversky mansion and we are only having 120 people. The ballroom is very intimate, so we opted for the basic / understated lighting package. It depends on location and what 'feeling' you are looking for. My best to you

Re: DJ Lighting?
I think it depends. I like when the lighting is one color or two. Nothing like a disco ball or too club.
