At first I didn't want to have either but now I am unsure. Our reception is on a Sunday evening 6-11. I think the lights may jazz it up a little but I'm still skeptical about the giveaways, I know it's fun but does it seem less 'classy'?
I have only been to one wedding with giveaways and that was a day wedding and I don't recall ever attending a wedding with lights. Anyone having this same issue?

Re: DJ Lights and Giveaways- Do or Don't?
I just deleted the lights from my package last night. I thought it would be cheesy.
eta - I did not even consider giveaways.

Yes. I was..I only wanted...a dj, mc and 4 hours a music. When, I went in they worked with a package deal with me, that I could not refuse. So, I ended up with lights...and giveaways...& 5 hours of music....
The only good thing I think will come out of that is to make people feel at ease ...without having bright WHITE lights to dance....
I wanted to add that I went to a wedding with just plain...lights that were dim and it was a little uncomfortable getting on the dance floor.

Spitzergirl, My situation is the same because they are offering a good package that includes these things and I was thinking about the bright white light syndrome too...

If you don't have to pay extra....$$$$ get it , it won't hurt. In my opinion...it will look a little like a club. Plus when I went to the showcase they had it....And it looked really, really impressive. I can't wait....I love Colors

I think the lights can be done nicely, and can add something to the dance floor. If you are having a casual, less formal reception, and have a younger bride/groom/crowd, I think giveaways are okay.

I had all white lights and liked that. It made it festive/party like but not cheesy IMO.

We're doing lights b/c MG is kind of dark and our DJ strongly recommended them (we've known him for years and trust him). We're also doing giveaways b/c I think people have fun w/ them (not until later on in the night though)

I'm personally not a big fan of either. I think the lights are a bit clubby, but if that's the look you're going for, than that's fine. As far as giveaways go, I do think they take something away from the elegance of a wedding, but that's just my opinion.

no giveaways...a waste to me, imo...however, we are still unsure about the lights. our wedding is a day wedding and we have practically a wall of windows...but if it is a cloudy day, then we might use them.

Our package comes with white lights and giveaways. We are having kids at the reception so the giveaways will be fun for them. Also, my FH wants to get 80's style wigs as giveaways for the guys. He thinks it will be great. We'll see.

I'm not having either. Partly b/c of the $$ but East wind is a very elagant place and I think the lights would detract from that. And IMO I think givaways are cheesy. I don't want people running around with plastic blow up guitars....Plus my brothers and FH's friends can be pretty immature, I don't want any encouragement!
ETA: I making 'fun boxes' for the kids so they will be occupied.

We're having lights and giveaways.... the older guests seem to LOVE the giveaways and I know that my FI's family and mine would be wondering what happened if we DIDNT have any! You should have seen my mom and his grabbing for the glowsticks at Villa's Showcase...it was so funny!

i'm still debating..i don't want to have the giveaways but i know the guests will probably be wondering where they are..the lights i never really thought about..hopefully it will be a nice day and i won't have to worry about it..there are a lot of windows in the room. good luck with your choice.

I think the light shows add something. But I'm not really a fan of the give-a-ways. I don't think your guests will notice, and if they do...I don't think they will miss them.
