DJ / MC ?

I know the DJ plays the music in the wedding, but what does the MC do? Is it necessary to have both?

The MC is the person who keeps the party going. They announce the bridal party into the hall, announce when dinner is served, do the cake cutting ceremony etc...he/she is kind of the director for the night so to speak. I am not too sure but you probably could find someone who does both as opposed to having the two seperate people.
Have you had any particualr dj's in mind you were looking into?

I was obsessed with having more people than I needed...

I had a Dj, an MC and an assistant...

I would have been satisfied with 2...and 1 can totally do the job

I have booked only a DJ, He comes with an assistant. My DJ is going to be the person doing the introductions in the beginning and the 'special songs'. The MC is the person that goes into the cropwd.. (or to the table) and tries to get Grandma Bette to dance... Or teaches Dances to the crowd. Your DJ (if hes nice) should come to help out in some songs (ie macarena).. But if hes not.. He wont and an MC will be best for you... Personally Me and My FH think MCs are annoying. (JMO though)
