Ladies! I can't sleep. I have a DJ/Promoter, who is pushing me to book with them or I'll lose the MC I favor.
I'm trying my BEST to shallow his quote of $4k consisting of:
- DJ & MC with sound and basic dance floor lighting $2350
-2 50' Plasma Screen with technician for set up and breakdown and to operate thru the night ($900)
- 2 Intelligent Light Moving Heads on Vertical Trusses ($750)
Am I being tough to demand a 25% discount? Do you think this is fair? He won't budge b/c he's deemed popular in the Indian community.

That seems extremely expensive, but if he is who you really want then you are not going to be happy unless you book him. However, I think its really terrible when a vendor is so pushy like that, and when they wont even negotiate at all with you. That alone would make me want to find someone else. In the end, its really up to you, you need to do what is going to make you happy for your wedding day. Good luck!!!

Thank you! I did think it was expensive but he said he already gave me a courtesy discount. My fiance says do whatever makes me happy but don't think I'll be happy if I overpaid for this.
Especially, when I'm not getting any help from our parents for any of our wedding expenses.

sorry but i agree with the others ... it's pricey and a pushy vendor is usually a bad one.
i'm sure you can find someone else .... do you NEED it to be an Indian DJ, or can it be anyone (sorry i'm dumb and don't know how these things work, necessarily)

I want a DJ that knows how to balance pop, hip hop, reggae and Indian hits b/c most of my guests are Indian.
Another question, i questioned why his payment schedule makes his clients pay for his full services before the actual event. It is stated in his contract all payments need to be sent by the wedding day. Does anybody else have to deal with that issue?

It has to be put into perspective. Are you using a large company or a smaller one? How popular are they and how long have they been around? Have you seen them at other events before and if so are they worth the $.
Yes, all wedding vendors except photo/video require all payments to be made in full typically 10-14 days before the event. Photo and Video are different b/c they are the only vendor who's job isn't finished the day of the wedding. They make you pay the remaining balance when you pick up your proofs and vid.

That is definitely high for what you'd be getting. However, like some of the other ladies have said - if you love them, I would go for it. If all goes well, you'll only have one shot at this =)
BTW - DEFINITELY negotiate before you settle on that. If that's the first price they gave you, they will come down significantly if you show resistance.

Is the price ridiculous? Absolutely.
However, you mentioned Indian...and you have to realize that the Indian wedding market, even in New York, is somewhat limited...so you are going to pay WAY more.
I'm paying about $4k, and that's after $1000 of negotiations (my package is for baraat, ceremony, reception, 4 intelligent lights, but no plasma screens). That's with a popular, but lesser known MC. If you're going for Magic Mike himself or someone similar, then yeah...$4-5k is a standard package.
If you need someone who is super comfortable mixing traditional Indian songs w/ 'top 40' or whatever, then you may need an Indian DJ. For a better deal though, you'll have to look elsewhere.

I'm getting that for $4000 too... AND a pianist for CH, percussionist for the reception, LED uplighting in any colors we want, our name in lights (gobo), zap shots, and a photo montage. And our company is known to be 'expensive' (but worth it!!!).
