DJ or Band???

DJ or Band???

Well, my FH and I are facing our first major issue..dj or band? I like a band, he thinks you need a dj to 'keep the party going'. Does this mean guests have more fun with a dj? I guess with a dj they would have any kind of music anyone would want, whereas a band might have a more limited selection.

Brooke, I deliberated over this - sleepless nights. What finally made my decision was the price! I busted my budget on the venue - the bands I looked at were between 6 and 8000! I just couldn't afford it. The DJ is $1,500 and I feel much better about it. I also like the idea of hearing the songs as we all know them. I am using Spin Around Sound - not cheesey at all. And they have a very extensive collection (so do we - so we should be fine!). I have never been to a wedding with a dj that didn't work out. But I have been to a few where the band really brings the whole thing down. You have to do a LOT of research. A lot of brides on this board seem to have found some good ones - and you can definitely trust their judgement! Good luck!

Well, it may come down to economics..I didn't realize there was a big price difference between the two. Thanks!

We're using a band because my FI insisted- I wanted to go with a DJ because of the cost issue and also because I like to hear the actual singers singing the songs I love.

You can find great bands in the $4K range...

we chose a dj, 1 for cost...I had chose an expensive hall and 2. we like to hear the artist perform the song...

just us...very personal decision, bands are VERY capable of keeping the party going...

It is totally a personal decision.

My fiance and I chose a DJ and it had nothing to do with costs. We have been to a lot of weddings over the past three years (at least 6 a year) and we always seemed to have more fun at the ones who had DJ's...so the decision was pretty easy for us. We also felt we would have more control over what was played and would have more variety. We chose Spin Around Sound as well. I am confident that they will be great. People say bands are more formal and more elegant...but that doesn't matter to me! I think if you get a good DJ, the atmosphere can be just as elegant.

I'm going to a wedding this Sat at the Beach Club in Ronkonkoma. I don't know who they're using, but I'll get a good idea of whether I like them or not! That's what I need to do...start attending a wedding a month so I can check out tons of vendors!

We got a band ... a fun band - they totally will keep the party going. I have been to weddings that has both, but my FH and I just prefer a band. Go to showcases and it will help you with your decision.
Good Luck with your choice.

We wanted a band but that does not mean there are not some great DJs out there too. Cost is a major factor in a lot of the decisions that brides make also.
We booked Milestone Music and there are under $4500 for a Saturday night. In fact they have some new members and the band is even better now than when I first booked them.
I have been to parties where the DJ bombed and some where the band was only so-so. Make sure you like whoever you book.

we booked a band because we are very into live music. if you choose a good band they definitely keep the party going. I know our band leader gets out onto the dance floor (like an mc) and gets everyone up and dancing all night! I love our band and they seemed very reasonable.

We are using Daybreaks Night with Franklin Wayne! They really are great ... such a fun, party band!

Thanks all for the vendor tips...I'm going to my friend's wedding tomorrow, and I'll be critiquing every single vendor she used!
